G73SX Turbo question
Dumb question incomming...
I just got a g74sx after my older g73j (with turbo button), im just wondering, since there is no turbo boost button on the g74sx does the turbo just automatically kick in? Or is there a way to turn it on? Like i said, dumb question but im new to asus.
*EDIT I meant to type g74sx*

I think it just has Turbo. It's handled automatically. Also, look at the threads about ThrottleStop for some interesting info.
Read the User's Manual for more info.

Have never used a G73, so not sure about what a turbo button is. In the G74 Turbo is handled by Intel's Turbo Boost, which automatically overclocks the cpu freq. according to the workload (from 1--all 8 threads) and the chip's heat output and "thermal distance" to its Thermal Design Power (similar to total dissipated power, in watts). The core i7 2630QM (stock=2.0GHz) for e.g. can OC anywhere from 2.5 GHz to 2.9 GHz (max),though for some reason the G74 running Windows 7 slightly cripples the max CPU clock to 2.7-2.8GHz.
You don't need to turn on Turbo Boost: its is enabled by default. A good BIOS (none are available for the G74) will allow you to turn it on/off though.

Can someone also explain what in the world the ROG connect is? I see its a realtime overclock program that lets you OC while on the PC but where exactly do you get the software for a specific notebook and what do you connect it too as far as the usb? Like i said, i'm brand new to this and have no clue what ROG connect is or what exactly you connect usb to.
Thank you for the response fostert

I've a question related to this thread. I've disable TurboBoost from starting at startup. Is that a bad idea?

No, it's. Just the turbo boost Monitor. I don't think you can disable turbo boost.
Read the User's Manual for more info.

rip_abbott: I'm sorry I don't know what the ROG connect feature is?? Anyhow I doubt it be a realtime OC program: these chips (i.e. i7 2630QM, 2670QM) are all multiplier locked and therefore not overclockable via software. Turbo Boost is the only thing that can OC them, and thats built into the silicon.
Lorca: you can disable Turbo Boost itself in ThrottleStop, but you probably don't want to: I think JRd1st is right and you have only disbled the monitor program.

Some older modesl od ROG notebooks had Twin Turbo that had a button. Don't know what it did exactly, though.
