Sorry I didn't realize you were on about AHCI not supported by these drivers on R5E. I had thought
you meant these drivers don't work on the R5E no matter the configuration, RAID or AHCI.

The occasional USB freezes seem to be gone now with the update to USB 3.1. Could be coincidence by I didn't notice the cursor of my USB mouse freezing anymore since I updated to 1201.

POST time is like 2 seconds longer, sometimes it would hang at the ROG logo while initializing connected USB devices (they would all light up), once done Windows 8.1 will boot as usual.

I flashed this BIOS and everything still works fine for me. Win 7 with 2 raid 0 arrays. I skipped the previous BIOS though so I went from something like 1001 to this one.

Also, this BIOS fixed an issue I was having where whenever I would reboot I would get stuck on the BIOS screen with the orange triangle (with the ROG logo screen disabled) and I would have to push the reset button and then it would post fine. Now it posts fine every time.

Asus is about to release a bunch of new board refreshes with native usb 3.1 built in. I guess that explains the USB 3.1 update in the new BIOS. Asus is also releasing a 2-Port USB 3.1 PCIe card that will require a free PCIe x4 slot at Gen2 or Gen3 speeds for about $39.00 for anyone that needs to have it.

Are there actual hardware changes to the controller on these boards? Or just updated BIOS flash?

    Hey!

Just wanted to be sure. The new bios provides USB 3.1 support for our board (legacy R5E if we can call it that already ). So when i see they're re-releasing the R5E with native usb 3.1, it means the same board as ours BUT with the new bios already installed ?

    i need clarification on this...

    thanks

As I understand it. New USB 3.1 controller is on the new rev boards. I saw some info here.
