asus crosshair v formula Question

Sorry guys, I try during a quick search to get this info, but couldn't get a clear answer

I have the original Asus Crosshair V Formula with a FX8150. I also have the Noctua NH-D14 for the cooling. Haven't update my bios in a long time (probably 2 years). If I update the bios to the latest version, what is the best CPU I can buy today for my current set-up ? My power supply is also 1000w with a GTX 670.

Thank you

Without changing the cooler to a 300W water cooler: FX-8350

Changing NH-D14 out for a 300 (or more) watt water cooling solution: FX-9590

I'd keep the air cooler, update your BIOS, and get an 8350.

Even the 8370 is out of the question ? thank you for your feedback

8370 isn't out of the question, but you'd be spending more money for zero improvement (outside of, maybe, marginal benchmark software improvements).

Great, thanks for the info. I will upgrade to the 8350 and called it the day... I guess it's time for a new set-up in a couple of years

8350/8370 are only 10 bucks apart in price. The 8370e is not a bad choice either

So Motherboard die after swapping CPU, not sure what happen, but now I got the Z board with a 8350, also upgraded video card to a 970. With my current cpu cooling option, is a 8350 still the best solution?

I would stick with the 8350 as overclocking the CPU to 4.7 could be possible if you can keep it cool.

Hey Guys its been awhile since I've upgraded my Crosshair V formula too. Glad i found this thread since i was also looking at the fx-8350. just a few extra questions. Will the fan that comes with the fx-8350 keep it cool if I dont OC it? also Bruno2284 did you figure out why it wouldn't start in your board? I remember when I first put this system together we all had problems getting it stable. I just upgraede my bios this morning to the 1703 version and was hoping that they got the bugs out. Thanks in advance guys

the old board would not boot with 2 separates 8350, and my old 8150 after I updated the bios, honestly i was looking for a reason to upgrade my system and that gave me one, lol. the board is running great, CPU is staying really cool at full load at 4.2ghz at the moment, pretty happy with the upgrade, and the 970 gtx also works really well!
