I haven't used the Intel Turbo Boost app since I got my G74 laptop in July, but I turned the app on last night and I noticed that when Power4Gear is on Max Power, the Intel Turbo Boost keeps running at a steady 2.5G on the 2.0G CPU. I thought that when the PC is idle the Turbo Boost monitor should display nothing? Is this normal? Process Explorer does really show the the laptop is pretty idle.
Not normal. I have mine on Asus High Perf all the time and I just checked TBMonitor. Can't even see the blue bar at idle.
You must have some background stuff happening that you don't know about. Did you uninstall most of the ASUS bloat? I kept only P4G, Wireless Console 3, Life Frame 3, and FastBoot.
Correction: I can just barely see the blue bar at idle.
Read the User's Manual for more info. 😄

Check Task manager in the processes tab and organize it by CPU Uasge to see whats chewing up your CPU and causing it to use turbo boost. I would also run msconfig to get rid of unnecessary start up programs running in the background. Also check your Anti Virus program; I know that Norton starts running a scan after a few minutes of inactivity.
Yeah, theres bound to be something hammering away at the CPU with Windoze...could be the damn Searchindexer (turn it off), or anything else third party. I am always amazed at how many processes start themselves at boot in Win: with the ASUS polluteware I saw a full 1.5GB of RAM eaten up just by starting. Solution? rm -rf /windows 😉
