ASUS Rampage IV Extreme - Easy Overclock Guide

Raja
Level 13
This guide is aimed at beginners who wish to set up the R4E with a manual overclock rather than use the preset profiles.

We're going to identify the key settings to get you up and running.

Enter UEFI (BIOS) and navigate to the Ai Tweaker Menu:

4211
Set Ai OVerclock Tuner to Manual

4212
Set the desired frequency multiplier for the CPU. We recommend 43~45X depending upon your cooling.

4213
Set memory frequency to the specified speed of your memory modules.

Then simply press F10 and save and exit UEFI.

This will get you up and running quickly. After this you may with to run a stress test to check the system is stable before you begin tweaking voltages.

The only voltages you may wish to change manually are CPU Vcore, DRAM VOltage and VCCSA. There are two ways of changing Vcore, the first is Manual mode, which allows you to set a static voltage that does not change with processor frequency. The second and more desireable operating mode is Offset Mode, for which we have a guide here:

http://www.asusrog.com/forums/showthread.php?2162-Overclocking-Using-Offset-Mode-for-CPU-Core-Voltag...

We recommend that you stay under 1.40Vcore for long term use, and most CPUs should give you 4.3GHz quite happily with that level of voltage.

For further tuning information on voltages and memory timings please refer to the guide here:

Should you have any questions, please post them below and we will help you 🙂

Hi Raja

My Name is Atif. I just installed this board into a Cosair 600T with H100 Push/Pull. 3930 SBE PRocessor, M4 Crucial 256Gb SSD. So far I'm on Optimal Bios Settings. I have G Skill 32Gb 2133 DDR3 RAM kit But I've been told by ASUS support the RAM is not listed as recommended by ASUS.

I've ordered 32GB Cosair Vengence 1600 DDR3 instead. I'm very new to the whole OC thing but I'd like to know what kind of OC should I try with my setup. This is my Daily 24/7 computer and I don't have any desire to be hardcore. I think I'd be happy with say 4.3-4.4GHZ.

Are the only settings change I need to make: Set Ai Overclock to Manual then Turbo Ratio All cores 44 then Memory Frequency 1600. Is that it - is it as simple as that?

I just ran LinX 3 times with 0 errors using my X.M.P. profile (corsair dominator gt 4 x4gb @ 2133mhz) with an offset of -.010. I kept a 100 Bclk and a multiplier of 44. Temps were in the low 70's and vCore hovered around 1.35 during load. Is this a reasonable configuration for a daily 4.4 ghz OC? I'll use this pc for gaming and that is about it.

That's a fine OC for normal use 🙂

Those settings should be good to go. DDR3-1600 is perfectly fine for a 24/7 PC, you won't gain anything is real-world apps using a faster memory kit.

The spec I've seen for the 3930 suggests the maximum you can set the multiple is X40. Is that the case, or will this board allow you to go higher than that? I've been thinking of getting one of these with a 3930 myself, so I'd be interested to know.
Motherboard: RIVE (3602 bios)
CPU: Intel 3930K @4646MHz
OS Drive: 2 X Samsung 840 PRO (Raid 0)

The 3930K is an unlocked CPU.

The specs listed by the supplier below seem to suggest that 40 is the maximum. Perhaps they got it wrong.
