Windows Auto updating and issues afterward, G750js

Purchased a G750js less than a year ago. Every time windows would do an auto update something would no longer work on my computer. Once it was the web cam disappeared and a few other times I don't remember what it was. I called Asus and everytime they had me reset my computer to an earlier date. They then told me it was the windows auto update working against Asus Auto updater and had me shut off my auto windows update. They told me that the Asus live update would take care of everything.
My first queston, where to I look to make sure Asus is updating everything and
SECOND, is the asus live updater also updating all the critical window updates that I should have? Something doesn't feel right to me by shutting off my Auto windows update

Hi shaf41, and welcome to the Asus ROG forum.
My experience with Asus Live Update, it creates more problems then it solves.
I have uninstalled the Asus Live Update on all 4 of my Asus NBs.
It's not wise to shut off Windows update services, and to answer your question, Asus Live Update will not update Windows
    critical/recommended updates.
To fix drivers issues you are experiencing, just uninstall the driver, then clean install (reinstall) the driver.
Most times that will fix any driver related issues you may have.
I have read in some threads where the Asus Live Update has bricked some NB when it auto updates the BIOS version.
My advice would be, uninstall the Asus Live Update, and just install updates manually from the Asus support page for your NB.

    Cheers my friend.

shaf41, GottiBoi55 is correct, you want to use Windows Update to stay up to date for Security updates and fixes. If drivers were messed up along the way, that isn't a good reason to stop doing Windows Updates - there are lots of bad things that can happen security wise to compromise your laptop without those updates.

As far as drivers, Here is the list of places I look for updates for my G750JH; the best way to get a stable fully functioning G750/G751 is to update all the drivers / apps to the latest Windows 8.1 release.

The G750JW/JX/JH/JM/JS/JZ download areas haven't had new updates for a while, BIOS updates still happen in your model's support area, so check there from time to time.

The G750/G751/551/500/etc share the same basic hardware components; check support download areas for new hardware for newer drivers.

Asus maintains central support areas for hardware component features common to all products, those areas usually have the latest drivers after new hardware releases, sometimes there is a lag before the newer drivers show up there, so still to new product releases support downloads for the latest drivers.

Asus G751 Support / Download areas - Asus hasn't updated all the versions of these support areas, this link discusses the 3 locations were started independantly and not sync'd/updated through to the latest driver releases - check them all to be sure.

shaf41, leave Asus Live Update uninstalled, that does nothing for you. Asus doesn't update drivers for products for very long after new release.

The bug you are seeing is something that others have seen, I haven't, not sure of a fix right now, but I can tell you how to get rid of it, and how to keep it coming back.

You will uninstall one of the Microsoft updates, and then "hide it" so it doesn't get installed again, until we figure out how to let it install and work correctly.

Here is a MS forum thread discussing the problem, it references another thread that "fixes it", but really it just tells you how to turn off the scheduled start up task the causes the error dialog, it isn't really a fix for for now just uninstall and hide it.

"I just installed windows update KB2984006 and, since then, everytime windows starts, I get error "Changelcon MFC Application has stopped working"
    https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/...6-07b5e5b17096

Start by making sure you have all Windows updates installed - it will make it easier to find the KB2984006 update to hide.

Go to Programs and Features Control panel, look on the left, next to the left edge, and select "View Installed Updates", find KB2984006 and right click on it to uninstall.

After uninstalling, Check for Updates again, and when KB2984006 shows up, right click on it, and Hide it.

Now KB2984006 won't show up when you check for updates

You can do some googling on this, and see if you can find a fix, and if you do find it, you can unhide the KB2984006 update and let it install.

Now you can enjoy Windows updates without that annoying error message dialog

Here's another Microsoft website that has been very helpful. The problem is the Genesys driver. It needs to be updated. I have the G750JW and the only driver listed on Asus's website is the original. Updating the driver worked for me. The site also offers other solutions.
