RAM not running in 2400MHz

Hi all,

I just built my own computer and all is good, however, the RAM isn't running at full speed. In the BIOS, it says the frequency of the RAM is 1666MHz instead of 2400MHz.

The motherboard, ASUS H97-PLUS does indeed support it.

I looked around and people are talking about timing, which I have no idea about.

And help would be much appreciated.

Enable the XMP profile in your bios.

If the memory doesn't have XMP, then you will need to manually enter the frequency (2400), base timings, and DRAM voltage.

The H97 manual clearly states that this is due to the chipset limitation.

To manually configure your memory, go into Ai Tweaker menu:
DRAM frequency: Set at 1600MHz, you can try 2400MHz but it will run at 1600 max.
DRAM Timing Control: Set base timings (10-12-12)
DRAM Voltage: Set at 1.65v

I just saw, it can run higher with XMP. I activated XMP, set frequency to 2400 and voltage to 1.65V but overclocking failed.

EDIT: I just tried at 1600MHz and 1.65V and it works. Is it really the H97-PLUS limiting me here?
