Never mind. I figured it out. Here's part of the problem: in the "user's manual," on the page that describes the function keys, it describes every function key except F3 and F4, which control the keyboard backlight. They are literally not in the list. This is very very frustrating -- why can't there be a manual that actually gives you the information you need?
