Hi Wr3ckloose, if you have the G750JZ-DS71 you will have windows 8.1 Home Premium.
Now the top JZ configuration the G750JZ-XS-72 with 32 GB ram, and with the larger M.2 ssd drives (Two 256 GB drives) will have Windows 8.1 Pro.
I guessing you have the DS-71 configuration, and not the XS-72, right?
Don't know about Crysis, I have no experience there, but Crysis 2 works just fine for me.

Hope this helps.
PS: Next time do your home work on this matter before buying.

Add Windows 8.1 Pro for $69.99 🙂

Windows 8.1 Pro for Students - $69

Windows 8.1 Pro Pack - $99
http://www.microsoftstore.com/store/msusa/en_US/pdp/productID.288392300

Actually, there aren't many reasons to get the Pro Pack / Pro for Students, especially with a laptop (hardware limits). All the differences can be made up with Open source / free / 3rd party apps, or even downloaded from Microsoft.

Compare Windows 8.1 Editions
https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/enterprise/products-and-technologies/windows-8-1/compare/def...

After living with Windows 8.1 Pro Pack, then re-installing Windows from Asus Backtracker, it hasn't been worth the effort to reinstall it 🙂

When I had Pro installed, I needed to use the Programs and Features Options panel to uninstall Hyper-V so I could use Virtualbox/VMware.

Bad timing for the Crysis question, I just uninstalled my Windows 8.1 install, and don't have a bookmark for how I did it... I did find the solution by this search, but I don't have the destination link that worked

Likely it was this one, I installed via the original DVD install, not Steam.

thanks hmscott, the feature im looking for is actually something minor. i wanted to get rid of the lock screen wallpaper. (the one that shows the time and goes away after hitting a key. )after doing several searches, only the pro version had a tool to remove this.

i remember reading that forum. after i spent a long time with a less than knowledgeable EA online customer service rep. everyone seems to have some kind of solution but none of them has worked so for.

Wr3ckloose, here is how to remove the lock screen in Windows 8.1 with/without Pro 🙂

How to Disable Lock Screen in Windows 8 and Later?
http://www.askvg.com/how-to-disable-lock-screen-in-windows-8/

For this change you can forget the Group Policy editor, which is why I assume you thought you needed Windows 8.1 Pro.

Using regedit go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\Personalization and add the DWORD NoLockScreen and set it to 1, then reboot, and no lock screen, works for me 🙂

And, here is how to install the Group Policy Editor into Windows 8.1 (non-Pro):

Windows Cannot find Gpedit.msc Error – Windows 7/8 FIXED <== may not be best version of fix, still looking, gpedit.msc works but not all policies are there.
http://www.rushinformation.com/windows-find-gpedit-msc-error-windows-78-fixed/

Install and then copy files from SysWow64 to System32 as shown.

Not all templates are there, like the lockscreen, even after installing these:

Download Administrative Templates for Windows 8.1 Update
http://www.thewindowsclub.com/administrative-templates-admx-files-windows-8-1-update

Probably need to add them, or? And, could find newer gpedit.msc installer... will update later if I find something useful...

And, for future reference, here is a nice site to lookup policies to find out the matching registry change:

At least you don't need Windows 8.1 Pro for the lockscreen fix 🙂

Wr3ckloose, you can make the folder and create the DWORD, it should work. 🙂

I kinda like the Seattle Skyline, so I enabled it again - set NoLockScreen to 0

Good morning.

Regarding Crysis 1, I was also unable to get the boxed version (Crysis Maximum Edition) running.
The solution to my issue was to contact EA costumer support and have then to add crysis to my origin account.
After that my issue was fixed. I must admit that the EA costumer support is pretty good.

P.S. What is so special about the pro Version of windows 8.1 ?
Best Regards

I might need to try with EA again. they guy i talked to knew absolutely nothing. ive tired adding to origin and even added the direct x extension to the command line with no results. the most consistent thing im getting from forums is that the game is not compatible with windows 8.1.

i find that hard to believe . also there is some kind of crack but i dont have time for that.
