Fan Header Question

Hey

Can the CPU_OPT be used as a normal fan connector ? I'm looking to putting more fans and this one would be ultra handy. I don't like having to resort to add-on cards for fan connections etc.

thanks

Yes- I use mine as just that - you can run your fans directly from your PSU, but then you don't have control of them

Some heatsinks come with two fans. So apart from having the CPU_FAN header, ASUS also gives you the CPU_OPT fan to connect the extra one. That is also why the settings for CPU_FAN is mirrored off to the CPU_OPT header.

To connect your fans directly to the PSU, you'd need a 3 pin fan to molex adapter.

Hey

Okay i see. Since i'm using a h100i, my cpu fan's setting is "full speed in q-fan control" so whenever i will plug a fan in the cpu_opt, it will be full speed straight away. Which i want actually so i don't mind. Although, could i use a different settings on the cpu_opt regadless of the mirroring ?

Nope. The CPU_OPT header will always use the same setting you've chosen for the CPU_FAN header.
