Stupid question time! PCIE SLI + soundcard

So my soundcard clicks and pops in the black PCIE slots, seems it is a problem of the X99 chipsets built in PCIE and I doubt it will be fixed so my other options using a spare red slot.

I am thinking about adding a 2nd GTX980.

If I have GTX980's in slots 1 and 3 (those being the 16x slots) and add a Creative ZXR to slot 4 will it force the 2nd card to 8x?

Thanks.

No. I have 2 video cards in slots 1 and 4, page 1-18 in the manual, and a sound card, soundblaster z, in slot 3. Video cards run x16 no problem.

That's fine for the soundcard in the last slot. Just avoid the slot 2 if wanting to have SLi running x16 x16

While we're on the subject, as above, I have a 2 card SLI configuration with a sound card in slot 3 and an Intel 750 SSD in the bottom slot 6. I was thinking of adding the 3.1 USB add on card to slot 2, but I think that will make the video cards run x16, x8. Anyone know for sure?

I don't have the SLi configuration but the number of posts I have seen is that if a card in slot 2, it appear to reduce the SLi configuration to x16 x8. I actually thought about this if I ever get the Intel 750 SSD and usb 3.1 add-on card.

There's this old thread that I think might give you an idea.

Yep. I think you're right. Using that slot 2 makes a x16x8 SLI configuration. I was thinking about the bandwidth of the device itself, but it doesn't appear to affect the change to x16x8. Thanks.
