Steam Games Keep Minimizing?

While playing, I've been finding that my games minimize to the desktop often, with my apps and stuff telling me that I have updates and other notifications. I've tried turning off notifications in the settings, but it still happens. Any suggestions for how to turn off the rest of my computer's functions if I want to only use it for gaming at the moment? I'm running on Windows 8.1

if you have a ssd turn the ssd management software off

Howdy Folks,
I also have been having this happen. Certain steam games like DayZ csgo and others all go to the desktop at crucial moments. My G750JHA is updated and I am running win 10 64bit. I have researched the issue and it is not just a win10 problem. A lot of folks blame steam and steam says it is a system issue although I find no error for the time it happens. There is one so called fix that has slowed the min to desktop issue and that is starting the steam app as an admin.
If I find a better fix I will try to get it posted asap.
