The 980 ti Is Upon Us!

Well guys I just saw the 980ti is released and the reviews are extremely favorable. The pricepoint, noise, power consumption and size are close to the GTX 980... but the actual power of the unit is much closer to the Titan (note, only half the memory, 6gb). I think this little beast might be my 3rd upgrade in 45 days. Had the default 760, upgraded to 970, then 980. Now I want the ti model.

One issue, it is reportedly exactly 250w power draw. Will this work in the G20? or is this cutting it too close?

Anyone have thoughts? Experience with it? Some review links below:

Ok so i mentioned the Titan X and the 250W thing to JJ in the PCDIY.Asus.com and he said it was theoretically possible (but can't confirm) to run a TITAN X and with that the 980 ti because the GTX 780 is specced for one of the versions of the G20AJs SO… i think it's possible but as for stability when under load, i have no idea, but it will run!… just not sure about in 4k

I'll definitely buy a GTX 980ti this week (whenever it arrives in toronto) and i'll install and let you guys know what happens. worst case i return it…*lol

Here's a link from another thread referencing a Dell 330W power supply that might give you the headroom that you need.

Good luck and please do let us know how it goes! 🙂

ok i ordered a PNY GTX 980ti… should arrive in my office in a week or so (or less depending on where the warehouse is)… if i have power issues i'll order a Dell 330W PSU from Dell or somewhere else that sells the Y90RR AC Adapter.

Please keep us informed when you do! I'm about to place an order for a 980Ti. I think the power draw should be about the maximum our stock PS's can supply.

Also the 330W, I have looked around and only found one guy on the forums that says it works propper. Are we sure it would be a viable option?

Ps. I can make a video of the install if you make a write-up. ;D

lol i'll wait until it arrives… The site i ordered from counted their supplier's inventory as "in stock" and not their local warehouse, that pissed me off. So it is late and hasn't arrived within 3-4 days of order (LIES! :p) still i'm waiting out i'll update when it finally arrives (i'm expecting by next week or something at this rate)

Installed my GTX 980ti, it's up and running, powered booted etc. no stalls. Ran 3D Mark, 27100 on cloudgate, 29300 on Skydiver, 157921 on Ice Storm. And it crashed in the middle of Firestrike, i may try that again but it may be the limits. (it did recover though)

I'll run some games later and see how well it runs.

It may be necessary to get the 330w psu because I feel there's a few moments where it gets unstable with a 230w psu AC adapter

Is it possible to use MSI Afterburner to limit the power usage of the card until you get the laptop adapter?
