ASUS ROG GTX 980 Poseidon, Voltage Info.

Hi,

I'm Italian user, I want to buy a ROG GTX 980 Poseidon, to integrate into my custom watercooling loop.

I read it is a great card, with an efficient cooling system.

About the voltage, however, I read that the strix is locked to 1.2V. The Poseidon is locked in the same way or reaches 1.25V?

For a liquid card, the blocked voltage would be really bad.

I want to be sure about that, before buying.

Thanks.

It should come as no surprise that any video card comes with locked voltage settings.
You can UNLOCK such things however, as you may have guessed, your warranty will be toast if nothing else.

I have the 980 Poseidon and I'm either going to buy another one or the Poseidon 980Ti.

hello, thanks for your reply 🙂

all gtx980 have a default voltage of 1.2V

all gtx980 can get to 1.25V by software as msi ab.

the strix is locked to 1.2V.

you have the Poseidon, so you can verify that.... Poseidon can get to 1.25V?

Thanks 🙂

after downloading that horrible piece of software, i can confirm you can't use it to tune the Asus card

Going back to GPUTweak helped, here is the screenshot

MSI AB can not adjust the voltage because you have not enabled the option in the settings. (must be activated manually).

However ASUS GPU Tweak explains the situation well. The maximum voltage is only 1,213V; All other gtx980 (not asus) arrive at 1.25V. Even the reference.

I do not understand the sense of creating a card with improved circuitry and WB, and lock the voltage, respect to a reference.

I really love the Poseidon, but this stops me from buying it ... honestly. You know when it comes out the GTX 980TI Poseidon? So to see if she will be locked ....

I would take a step back and rationalize the fact the more voltage isn't always better.
Currently running 1.213mV @ 1412mhz & 55*c

I think voltage is more sustainable with the DIGI+ VRM & Black Metallic Capacitors.

Sure other cards maybe easier to unlock and force 1.5v and really go at the bleeding edge. I know the Matrix is one LN2 Jumper away from being unlocked. And if your seeking that 1500+mhz threshold that's what I would suggest. However I would argue that on a 28nm chip running 1.213v.

I don't expect the Poseidon 980Ti release to take to long, it's already confirmed by Asus that they will be making the 980Ti model in the Poseidon series (Asus FTW).

I haven't felt the need to push this card further then what GPUTweak will let me with the stock bios, but it is certainly possible. There are bios that will unlock the mV and let you go up to 1.5v in GPUTweak.

hi,

Where are the bios to unlock the voltage?
I will absolutely not 1.5V... I look up 1.25V or 1.3V max ......

Default is 1,2V..... at 1.2V is reached about 1500 Mhz .... 1,25V --> 1600Mhz.... 1,3V 1650 / 1700Mhz....

I'm curious to see these bios ...

bios?

I'm sorry but I'am hesitant to post programming that will possibly void warranty & damage hardware.
I think your numbers are inflated & your goals are a bit ridiculous.
Good luck to you though, whatever card you get I'm sure it will be almost as good as ROG 😛

NVIDIA is the one forcing AIB partners to lock down the voltage.
