I get the same findings no matter what i use to check the temps,
No i dont use the pc that much and even after 6+ hours of gaming i am yet to see it go higher than 31C

I am running the I7-2600K at stock with a H100 on push/pull set up,
But even when i got it clocked to 5GHz and ran it for 4 hours it only hit 45C
LOL, with temps like that you either have chilled water or a TEC. Those temps are below what most people have their ambient at

I have just set my 2700K up with chilled water (at 12C) and am getting temps ranging from 40C (low on the best core) to 48 (high on the worst core) at 4.8GHz fully loaded (folding). That's with a Swiftech Apogee XT Rev 2, although I am going to redo the TIM when I update the loop (gpu and a few replacement fittings to neaten the system) in a couple of weeks.

With temps like that why dont you try and overclock your processor beyond 4.8 GHz.
Also do try and run a stress test with Prime 95 because with stock cooler i dont have problems playing games for any number of hours even on 4.2GHz overclocking. But Prime 95 blows it.

Getting a good min/max voltage gets tricky past 4.4-4.6

p.s. I swapped a fan and removed a fan and now at 3.8 all cores have 80oC-84oC with a small passive heatsink. Now MB and CPU idle at 34oC/28oC (38/32 after a few hours idle, seems to change a bit) with two case fans that idle at 540-720 RPM. Might try 4.x with one core on the weekend.

My goal was a silent PC in a small case. The only thing I can hear is the laptop drive, and the motherboard squeak softly sometimes when it changes voltages, lol.

You will do better temp-wise. If you have the cash there are also some custom water coolers with highend Eheim mini pumps, that is what I would do if I cared. What I was thinking though, and what stopped me, is Ivy will be much lower TDP, so will probably overclock with any heatpiped heatsink.

    Why don't you overclock?????

What's the point in keeping idle temps at 30 -35..
    overclock beyond 4200 MHz...and let's talk...
use Prime 95 to watch your PC's stability

Idle temps only matter for fans, on a hot day I don't want them to have to ramp past 700 or 800 rpm. I just play games and program so more interested in stable and quiet.

Load temps will probably go past 90oC at 4.2+, maybe 4.4 will be OK with the fan swap. I will give 4.2, 4.4, 4.6 and 4.8 a whirl @1.25V with one core, lol. 1.25V core and low voltages might actually work with 1.25V memory, so that is my only interest in overclocking it, I have most voltages below 0.96V now. I was also going for low volts for when Ivy comes, so trying to see how low they go, rather than the opposite. Also the z68 bridge chip is safer at below 1 volt from what I can tell, so testing that it stays stable.
