G74SX promised 3D virtual surround missing

Hello,
I had X-Fi sound card, which uses CMSS-3D. I were able to determine the sound direction in games (back, front..) using headphones. But in this notebook, there is realtek chipset only. Drivers (Creative_THX_MUI_Win7_64_Z10301) are giving just EAX5 support. None 3D virtualization is present in THX TruStudio. Are these words in advertisment (THX + EAX 5.0 3D gaming audio technolog) lies? Or I am missing something?

What G74SX model do you have?
G74SX-A1 - stock hardware - BIOS 202 - 2nd Monitor VISIO VF551XVT

Does it means, that not all G74 have virtual surround? My version is: ASUS G74SX-TY151V
Present sound chip: ALC269.
SRS® TrueSurround HD (optional software feature), as written on http://www.realtek.com.tw/products/productsView.aspx?Langid=1&PNid=24&PFid=27&Level=5&Conn=4&ProdID=...
So there is no HW problem. Just asus is not providing correct drivers.

You get the 3d sound through hdmi.
Read the User's Manual for more info. 😄

Virtual surround emulates surround using just stereo output. We humans have 2 ears. So it is possible to emulate 3D positional effect. In X-Fi HW this was named CMSS-3D. It should be present in THX TruStudio pro. I am not talking about 7.1 system. I am talking about 3D voice emulation positioning via headphones - EAX5 is used for that. So the "hdmi" is not an answer to my problem.

THX TruStudio PRO does have a "Surround" feature. However, this feature is disabled in the free version and does not exist in the pre-installed version of THX TruStudio on the G74SX.

So there is no "EAX 5.0 3D surround", which means, that the advertisment is lying.

I'd say YES, the ad is misleading, UNLESS Xotic PC supplies the fully-featured version of Creative THX TruStudio PRO. Xotic does customize the standard ASUS models, so it would not be unexpected if they did supply the full version.

I'd give 'em a call. Maybe they forgot to install it on your system. I did see a case where they forgot to reconnect the WIFI card antennas on a customer's system, so they are not above making mistakes.

Well, I am sorry. I were reading many advertisment before buying G74SX. It is possible, as you say. That they are providing better SW for the same notebook. I didnt realised this possibility. Thanks for help. I wil buy a recon3d usb "sound card" (which is maybe SW solution too) to have CMSS-3D technology.
