Big enough backpack?

Retired

I bought my G73JH-X1 a few days ago and I'm loving it so far. The only thing I regret is not getting the model that came with the ROG backpack. I was told that it was similar to the Targus Groove so I bought one of those only to find out it was slightly too small and my laptop wouldn't fit in the padded sleeve. Is it possible to buy the ROG backpack by itself? What cases/backpacks do you guys recommend?

Edit: I don't really want to spend more than around $70

What else do you want to carry, or do you want it to be just big enough for the lappy and accessories? If you want a bag to carry other stuff as well these are nice and you can find them for less than MSRP and in your price range with a little effort:

Well after a little more research I decided to try the Slappa Velocity Matrix, everything I've read about it seems great, I should get it in couple days and I'll post the results here.

A very nice backpack with lots of room and has been handling my baby G73 nicely..

Love that sig, @Trav. I can read it. 🙂 Actually, I use the Swissgear 17-inch backpack for my G53, so I think that you might need to--and I know someone who does--have an 18.4 inch backpack for the G73JH. Just my $0.02. Maybe take the comp to the store and try them out--then again, the company might think you are stealing computers, which would be a rather sticky situation to be in.

That last one is the one I had from a previous laptop as well. The bag that comes in the upgraded laptop package (FYI the bag is not why it's more expensive, the laptop hardware itself is different- at least on the Jw according to Amazon forums) anyway the bag that comes in the package is tiny. You can buy it from the asus store, but I wouldn't. Ever see those super thin jackets that scrunch up in a drawstring sack to something the size of a pair of socks? I'm not sure that would fit in the bag with the laptop. OK I'm exaggerating, but I'm not when I say most people would end up carrying two bags. Which if carrying two bags works for you, isn't a bad idea... less stuff to bounce around against the laptop.

Even that Targus City Gear which is giant and roomy has an issue. The laptop sleeve is designed for a machine that has the hinges on the end... i.e. even though this is only a 17" laptop, the hinge location adds an inch or so to one of the dimensions. It will still be a nice and coxy fit... better actually than my old HP 17.3" screen in both directions... my old HP was actually small enough it had play in the sleeve. But now, and with all other other pockets on top, and having stuff in them, you can only get the laptop on and out while the backpack is upright. Again, not a major thing, but enough to make you think- "What else is just a little off, and how much does all this stuff thats a little off add up?"

Targus Voyager works great..... laptop actually fits in the laptop section..... only down side is about 3/4 of an inch stick out of that section, but still have padding and safe.

Much better than my backpack which has very little protection for the notebook, but loads through the side . Hey, it has held up pretty well, and for a Swissgear, it was really cheap. I have heard that the Targus 17 XL will hold just about anything, including some 18.4-inch notebooks. Then again, most companies check against a normal computer, often a Macbook Pro, rather than the weapons of the Republic of Gamers. Now that the ROG notebooks are 2 inches thick, that can cause problems. It is not the size, but the fact that my ROG lappy is over twice as thick as a Macbook Pro, but runs over twice as quiet. 🙂
