Exclamation Is the G74SX TH71 a good option?

Hello guys,I am about to purchase a G74SX TH71 from TigerDirect.com.I ll be getting it from an uncle in the US as I stay in India.

    I had a few doubts.
In the specs it is written-
    Optical Drive-Blu ray Player.
    What does that mean?
And if I have any issues with the touchpad in the future ,are these issues rapairable under warranty?I have authorized Asus service centre at my place.I wanted to knw whether these problems r repairable or they need a full replacement?
    Please reply soon.
    Thanks.

The optical drive can read/play CDs, DVDs, and BDs. It can write CDs and DVDs, but not BDs.

If you get a truly bad touchpad, repair is the same as replacement, and yes, it would be covered under warranty. I think the odds are low that you'd have that issue, though.....if that makes you feel any better.

Thanks Brodyboy the repair thing makes me feel better now.
Do u think the 720p res. of the screen will be much of a miss in that model?

I really can't offer an opinion, since I've never seen that screen. I do think the Full HD screen is really nice....great clarity, brightness, etc., so if their current 1600x900 screens are comparable, it shoudl be fine. (I have an older 1600x900 screen that is nowhere as good as the G74 display, but I would think they have improved in the current generation.) Is there any chance you could actually see the display anywhere? Just to be sure?

It wouldn't be so great on a 46 inch screen, but it won't be bad on a 17 incher.

That being said, I'd still go for the 1080p...
