    Only Asus knows....
My guess; Asus will release another buggy Windows 10 driver somewhere in Q1 2016 and then totally abandon the Phoebus and force you to buy the Strix if you want any kind of "support" from Asus.

Damn, i cant figure out whats worse in those pretty similar situations. This here, or the one that i've experienced in the past, back when win 7 was released. I had some top premium ultra giga fatality with external shiny knobs and useless lancelet remote x-fi then. Drives for win7 given by creative had like 70% of card's functions disabled because... of new titan x-fi realise that had all the same functions and specs , only working on win7... Thanks to gods almighty, one Guy, made pax drivers then, that re-enabled everything that creative broke on purpose. To top things out, creative was suing a Guy for that...
A promise to not buy any sound card from Creative any more was made and kept... breaking a long line since early SB's.
And now freakin that! From company to i've turned to... Thanks asus... for a slap to the other cheek i guess...

Did any of you actually try that beta driver that was released recently? It's working for my buddy so at least it works on Windows 10 now. He contacted ASUS support and was told that the official driver is available early October.

Yeah, and i say bullcrap. The problem with asus is that no one at their end knows anything about a hypothetical windows 10 driver, because
    1) As far as i'm concerned, c-media hasn't released anything yet
    2) Asus doesn't care
and 3) Asus has some new sound cards so screw the other ones

    Nope
Guess there's no real pressure on C-Media to deliver something acceptable. The CMI8888(DHT) is from what i can find not exactly a widely adopted and commonly used chip on sound cards. Asus uses it on the Phoebus but we all know Asus doesn't care, they want you to empty your wallet again and buy the Strix sound card so no pressure on C-Media from that side.

Yes I've tried it. It doesn't work any better than the default driver windows installed. With this the Phoebus is nothing more than any other crappy onboard sound is.

I explicitly bought it for being able to output multi-channel audio over SPDIF via DDL and axactly that functionality is broken now (and probably will never be restored).

If ever AMD or nVidia will get their stuff together and finally enable multi-channel PCM audio via HDMI WITHOUT the need to have an active display connected to that port, all will be fine and we don't need separate audio cards anymore to waste our money on. At least for us a/v receiver users... 8)

I'm just at a loss as to why it is so hard to output digital lossless multi-channel audio from a PC, even in the year 2015?! I'ts just beyond me.
