    hi CdrMittens,
Power supply with 850W and your haveing system-components ,that you have written on the top of this thread, is enough, i'm sure. i have only 750W
with a stronger and power hungry grafic-card gtx770.
i hope your 4790K is ok and taken no damage for the 100°C hitting. You are the best, that you stopped the benchmark, when you have seen the high
temperature. A short periode for seconds the overhitting is normaly no problem.
I have the same prob with cooling the cpu, that i have booked now watercoolung from enermax. it should came the next few days.
Memtest+86: i have installed two operation-system in a dual-boot-system ,Windows 7 and Linux/Ubuntu (both 64bit). On start the PC shows me an menu,
in there i can choose, if i start Win 7 , Ubuntu or i can choose the memtest+86 , that i have done last week. "missing operation system"-screen = no
bootable Memtest+86 on an no bootable usb-stick. Additional in BIOS it must be set ,that you boot from an usb-device.

    Hi CdrMittens,

I agree with other members suggestions for your issues. I'm just gathering more information for other possibilities.

The Corsair Hydro series H50 should do you well. I would hold off on doing any stress tests to the CPU until the stock cooler has been upgraded, as you have noticed with the CPU temps.

Your PSU has more than enough power for your setup, although I wounder how "old" it is as I've found a review for "XFX black edition 850W" dating back to October 2009. There are a few variants of your PSU since it's release, so it's an unknown to it's age. I've had an old, but hi-quality psu start failing and causing weird issues due to bad capacitors in it, and it was rated 250 watts more than my PC needed at max load.

We'll have to wait until you replace the CPU cooler and are able to run the tests as MeanMachine has suggested and LordofPressure has concurred, so as to know what direction to go next.

    Hi CdrMittens

If you put the video card in the second PCI-Express slot , works fine without crashs or not ?

Me and Hyralex , we have this problem too , but if the video card is in the second slot , it works fine (of coarse this is not a fix , its just a work around) .

You can test also with Valley Benchmark and Heaven Benchmark .
Too me is a CPU or mobo problem .... , i tried all new drivers , all bios ,,,,, nothing works .

CdrMittens , can you test a CPU from a friend in your pc ? ( and maybe other video card too just to test ? )

Here are our links , im waiting for a answer from Hyralex .

Hi guys, sorry for the super late delay. Had some life problems get in the way.
Anyway I upgraded the CPU cooler and ran a benchmark, it ran it with no problems but I don't recall my score.
I also got memtest 86+ to work and all my memory passed so that's a relief.
I also tried using a TdrDelay on my Graphics card to see if that would help but so far nothing.
I will try swapping the graphics card right now to another PCI slot.

My power supply is about 5 years old but I've never had a problem with it, i hope it isn't that.

Sadly I don't have any friends with the same cpu as I do.
I'll try swapping the card and let you guys know how it goes.
Thanks again for all the help guys

well I tried swapping the graphics card to the second PCI port but that didn't solve the problem.
I wouldn't think the overheating of the cpu would be a problem as after I installed the new cooler it ran the benchmark perfectly and my memory is good.
How would you test a power supply?
and does anyone have any other ideas of what it could be?

Well I don't think its the power supply as I "borrowed" my girlfriends 750 W and hooked it up.
I ran counterstrike for about 10 minutes before it crashed.
Could it be my graphics card? I'm playing the exact same games before I upgraded the motherboard/cpu combo and never had a problem.
I'm running out of ideas guys.

    Hi CdrMittens,

I'm out of ideas as well, other than testing by process of elimination.

    confirmed to date...
Ram is matched kit = check
    BIOS update = check
CPU cooler replaced = check (due to old one failing)
    CPU passed test = check
    Ram passed test = check
GPU moved to 2nd slot = check
    PSU swap = check

    So far no improvement...hmmm

All that's really left hardware wise, is Mobo and GPU.

GPU swap = ? remove/uninstall all GPU driver/software, install a different GPU and test.

The only other thing I can think of trying just to see what effect it has if any, is to leave the side panel off of the case and set a desk fan or something similar blowing air into side of case to maximize air cooling.

Guys I think I figured it out.
I downloaded a program to adjust the fan speed on my GPU called Precision X and I think it was overheating with my new configuration.
It was showing counter strike running at 250 fps and getting up to 80 C.
Now that I have it limited to 60 fps I have only had one random crash in Diablo 3 so I think that was the main problem.
If it starts crashing again I'll make a new thread about it and what not.
Thanks again everyone for all the help I really appreciate it.

You are living on the edge with that 5 yr. old PSU.
PSU performance degrades over time and will eventually crap out due to age.

I highly recommend replacing it now to avoid foreseeable future problems.

PS's lose capacity with age and heat so take it FWIW and it's probably time to replace it with a quality unit. Even high end units fail, I had a corsair hx1000 fail after 4 years and since it was under warranty I received a new hx1050 in return. You should probably measure the rails with a digital multimeter to see if they are sagging just to be sure.
