The stock one is just horrid to the point it doesn't work with my Comcast router... Any successes replacing them? Recommendations?

Having the same issue with Comcast, also on a G55VW laptop.

Router puts out 2.4 and 5g signals, but the ASUS laptop only accepts the 2.4 version which is terribly slow and constantly disconnects me from my online games.

Had the same issue with the N53S model laptop.

I've used Intel cards with great success in mine. I've used Intel 6230 and 6235 before for dual-band N. Now I'm using a 7260 dual-band AC card. Never had any issues with any of them. And they're not that expensive either. It's a bit of work replacing it though. You need to get under the keyboard.
Asus ROG G55VW:
CPU: i7 3630QM
GFX: Geforce GTX660M with 2GB ram
RAM: 2x8Gb 2133MHz Kingston HyperX Impact (surprisingly the G55VW uses the 2133 X.M.P. profile)
Storage: RAID0 with 2x 256Gb Crucial SSDs (both msata, one in a sata adapter)
OS: Windows 10 x64
