GPU Failure? I'm done with ASUS. Horrible experience, will be reviewing it

I'm a YouTuber and thought ASUS was a dream come true, the specs were good and everything seemed awesome. Then after a while I see 1 pixel on my monitor failed, try to contact asus but it's hard to get it fixed.

Now my GPU failed I believe, my monitor has a red line going down the centre of it a few pixels wide. I paid over 3 grand for this laptop. 3 GRAND!!!! And I can't even use it for a year before it falls apart.

I will be posting a negative review, the first one I've ever posted.

---

I think this laptop is a return, I actually do, I bought it straight off of amazon, and they are telling me 30 day period is over so I need to deal with ASUS directly. So nothing I can do there either.

I can't believe I am going through this, I was just about to buy one for my brother, I think I'll stick to Alienware.

I went into BIOS and the line was still there, I am guessing either a cable is loose, broken or something on the monitor, or the GPU has failed.

Argh, I'm sorry to hear that you're having problems with your ROG machine and have been there myself with another (non Asus) laptop in the past which turned into a complete nightmare after (funnily enough) it had a GPU failure, but eventually got fixed in the end and it lived a full, reliable life after that.

Not to sound patronising here but all devices whether they're mechanical or electrical, can fail at any time however - and it's not really fair to put all the blame on Asus as your laptop contains components that are not actually manufactured by them; they just assembled them together so it could be down to a multitude of reasons that your machine has stopped working. This could quite as easily happen to an Alienware, MSI or Apple laptop and as I work in IT Support I see it all of the time; brand new and expensive devices packing in after only a few days of use, so it's not that rare and rather unlucky for you, unfortunately.

So how long have you had the laptop, and what sort of experience are you having from contacting Asus support? If you've only had it a couple of months or so, you'll need to properly throw your toys out of the pram with Amazon to make them listen and replace it. Get on the phone to Asus/Amazon and rant at them. Get on twitter and tweet something about amazon and Asus customer support being crap and that they're not listening to you. In my experience, companies only pay attention when their name or products are blackened publicly, so it might work for you.

I have only had it for roughly 9 months 😞
It's really disappointing, any idea what it could be? is it GPU failure?
The GPU is soldered right?

I will call ASUS, I can't go without a laptop for 2 - 3 weeks during shipping, repair and shipping time. I don't know what to do I rely on it for work.

Clockwork is spot on here. While it is certainly frustrating dealing with hardware failures you are dealing electronics and points of failure that number in the billions. This is bad luck and nothing more. You would not be better served by any other make or model in this regard. This is what warranty coverage is for.

Unfortunately your options are rather limited in getting your laptop repaired quickly. I am in a simular boat in that I use my g751 for business as well. I also have other systems I can fall back on to ensure business continuity. If you rate continuity highly then there are vendors that specialise in such needs offering 24hr on site service and the like they also cost more and gaming specific hardware may not be on the menu. I personally chose to 'self I insure' my business continuity as even with 24hr on site service things can get quite protracted.

Such things tend to catch those not in IT as a surprise when they connect the dots after a hardware failure hopefully this can serve as cationary tale for some and an unfortunate lesson learned for you. Hopefully you can find a way to navigate your current situation successfully.

yea thanks had to completely re-work my 2015 budget sheet now, I'll be renting an MSI GT72 2QE for roughly $500 for 45 days or so.

So how does ASUS RMA work in the UK? I saw some nightmare images of scratches on the laptops etc.. My laptop has never even been moved properly, it's SUPER clean and not even 1 scratch on it. I take a lot of care of my hardware.

Will I need to ship it to a service center and then they will replace whatever is off and ship it back? How long does this usually take?

So with the caveat that I have not the slightest clue what your requirements are, I would advise seeing what you could get away with regarding minimum specs. For 500USD / GBP you could outright buy a PC / Laptop to serve as full time backup. It may even be worth spending a touch more. I just keep my old hardware around to serve as my backup.

I would imaging that physical damage to your device during service would be an exception rather than the norm, consider well documenting the condition along with a newspaper or some such (to show the date) if this is a concern you wish to mitigate.

RENTING 45 days a gt72 FOR 500$!! WTF (1/4 of the price of the laptop give or take)

if you send your g751 for repair, it should take no more than 2 weeks.. And for 500$ just buy a low end laptop, and sell it back when you get back your G751.

Renting a laptop at this price is just a big scam!!!

wow mate! I am in Glasgow scotland! We should make an ASUS fan club.

The only nice MSI with the processor I want only has a 970m, the 980m is much better right? damn I really need:

I7-4860HQ/5700HQ
32GB DDR3
980m preferred
17 inch IPS etc...
Also at least 1TB of SSD with a nice m.2

I think I'll rent the MSI one with the 4720HQ.
