new ram on exisiting system
do i have to format my hdd to get all 16gb of ram or is there some other way.. all 16gb shows up in bios and cpuz

No you don't need to format, it will be all recognized automatically.
If it's showing up in CPUZ what alerts you to the idea it's not all being seen in Windows?
