Is switching to linux on my G751JT a good idea?

This might be a dumb question,but after the whole privacy fiasco with windows 10,I'm willing to make the switch. But I'm not sure if it's safe to do so on this machine.

I have that exact laptop with Ubuntu 15.10 on it. Most everything works perfectly fine. The only problem I have is that i can't adjust my brightness (system settings or function keys) and its stuck on max brightness

i dont know why , but in slackware 14.1 installed csm mode , with dual boot , Unexpectedly shut down ,
