Maximus VI Extreme - i7 4790k - Corsair H100i cooler: What is normal temps

Can anybody point me to a link that might give me some clues as to the normal temperature ranges for my rig?

Normally the ROG Panel shows around 45C, while downloading Star Citizen Patch I saw it climb to about 64C.

I am not doing any OCing yet. And I have not tried playing Star Citizen yet as I am concerned at to what to expect temp-wise.

I am using the Nxzt Phantom case with 5 fans in addition to the H100i liquid cooler.

I know my GeForce GTX 770 is designed to operate at 80C - which it does fairly quickly when jumping into Star Citizen.

Thanks for taking time to read and any responses,

    Ke1vin

Normal idle voltage should be 0.7xx to 0.9xx volts and temps at idle should be about 30 degrees if you have pretty normal ambient...

Load depends a bit on what voltage the CPU uses but say 60 degrees would be normal...70 a cpu that likes voltage...on a stress test..

is the pump working OK on the H100...if you feel the tubes entering/exiting the cpu block does one of them feel warm?

    Arne Saknussemm,
I can't really tell about the hoses as the H100i GTX has a rather thick cloth braid around it.

With this forum open to write this

When I open the Corsair Link, the ROG LCD shows 44C

    The Corsair Link reports:
    IntelCore i7-4790K Temp 51.5
    H100iGTX Cooler Temp 29.4C
ASUSTek Motherboard CPU Temp 44C ( matches ROG LCD )

    H100iGTX Fan 1560
    ASUSTek Motherboard TZ00 Temp 27.8C

Hmmm pretty much useless info to me I'm afraid...maybe someone else can help who has tried that software?

I just trust Realtemp or Coretemp or Aida64 for my temperatures....want to know CPU core temps...the rest is a bit meaningless I'm afraid. "CPU temp" and "package temp" and all that kind of thing can be 10 degrees lower than reality...other measurements off.

If you have more than one monitoring program open or installed like HW monitor or AI Suite they can interfere so much no reading is reliable....Corsair link and AI suite are terrible for wanting to be the only program installed and then give all sorts of info except what you want...

Okay, a tech at Corsair told me that he would expect the temp to stay down in the low 40's upper 30's.

Under stress he suggested that 60's low 70's.

He said to try a graphic intense game and watch to see if temp spikes very fast. Mine does, to which he suggested that the cooler may not be sitting completely level on top of CPU.

    Hello Ke1vin

At stock/default settings your 4790k is getting overvolted some, it's probably running 1.25v - 1.30v at stock.

Set the cpu core voltage to 1.20v and test for stability, if it passes lower it to 1.19v and test again. Keep lowering the cpu core voltage .01v and testing until you get a BSOD or freeze then raise it back up .01v.

The lower you can get the voltage the lower your temps will be. When you start overclocking you should be able to do 4.9GHz-5.0GHz with the H100i GTX.

I'm with Arne on the cpu temp monitoring program, I use Realtemp 3.70. Stress testing temps can hit 90c and is still ok but I don't like to let it there very long, if your gaming temps are 75c or below you are fine.

Looks like you will have to take the H100i off and remount it....check you have backplate the right way round etc and carefully hand tighten it evenly all the way down onto the CPU....half turn alternating diagonal corners....

When you take it off have a good look at the pattern in the thermal paste....ideally it should be pretty much see-through and even all over contact surface on CPU
