Hi people,

Just recently purchased a crosshair v and amd 8150 cpu and set everything up but when i go to turn my pc on i just get all fans powering up and the red cpu led light on the board... externally the usb ports get no power and there is no display on the monitor... I have read through as many threads as i could find and have tried swapping out all the parts with my old amd rig which is running a 1100t and resitting parts several times but still to to no avail still giving red cpu light. I was able to make it to the asus splash page once by resetting the jumper however after that one time it has not worked ...

currently running -
mobo: CHV
CPU: amd 8150
GPU: 2 x 580gtx
PSU: ocz 1250w
RAM: 16gb corsair dominators

tried swaping parts with -
1100t
ddr3 rip jaws
6950 gpu

Anything else i can try? oh i have also tried rebuilding it outside of its case... still red cpu...
Is my only option now to rma?

The 8150fx cpu needs a higher bois to run on your motherboard.
Insert your old CPU, flash your bois, and it should work.

Install the 1100T, one stick of memory (furthest slot from CPU), and one GTX 580.
If the post is successful, flash to the latest bios listed on the ASUS support website.
Once completed, you can then install your FX-8150.

thanks for the quick reply guys, my motherboard revision is 1.01 which should be running 813 bios which from my research shows should be compatible with the 8150, as mentioned above I have tried booting with the 1100t however I still get the cpu error LED so i am unable to reach the bios screen, I have tried booting with the minimal amount plugged in as well... 😞 ie 1 stick of ram and one gpu...

Ok, re-read your posts, only two common components here are the MB and PSU.
Do you have only the 8-pin CPU power connection to the board?
Can you test another PSU?
If the 1100T has all pins intact (none broken or bent), then I would say RMA the board.

No, the extra 4-pin is not really needed unless doing some extreme CPU overclocking.

Yeah looks like your best option is to RMA the board, a not so Merry Christmas I'm afraid.
