Strix 980 Ti problems... again the Strix...

Hi, i recently upgraded from a very problematic Strix 970 to a Strix 980 Ti and was quite pleased by the performance, out of the box without any changes it hit a wooping 1414mhz. Started tweaking with it and arrived at max boost 1493mhz with +87v/+110% power/+50 core/+400 mem at 77 max temp/50% fans.
Everything was working perfectly until this morning when in the middle of a MWOnline game i had a sudden driver crash, followed by monitor turning off and me having to reset the pc. Power on and 1st strange thing, it wouldn't downclock from 1190mhz to its power saving states below. in every game so far it downclocks exactly 13mhz below the clock i had been running with, AFTER HITTING 63 DEGREES.

Help ?

Shameless bump for anyone's informed opinion. Why would this board be underclocking after 63 degrees ?

Hello Kenrou

Yeah I find it strange too your 980ti is underclocking at 63c. If you're using GPU Tweak what is the temp target set at?

Your monitor is 1080p @ 60hz, you shouldn't have any trouble keeping 60FPS at that resolution with a 980ti, underclocking 13MHz shouldn't have any effect on performance.

I notice with my gpu's if they're under 50% usage they will downclock. What is your gpu usage when gaming?

Which version driver are you using?

Also I believe there was a new BIOS was released recently for the Strix GTX 980 Ti to target the high temps on some cards so maybe try checking to see if you have the newest BIOS?

I always hated the GPUTweak UI, use MSI afterburner instead, log shows no reason to be throttling, it doesn't have visible performance hit outside of benchs, but again, its not normal. Temp limit is 91 as its OC and power limiter is at 110%. I went to the ASUS website a couple days ago, no BIOS ?

Oh my bad, I heard people talking about it but maybe not the same card.

Msi afterburner software does not get along with Asus products.
