Popping sound issue on VIII HERO

I've noticed that some people got issues with sound on that motherboard and according to asus.vip forums on some other z170 motherboards. I've been trying to fix those issues for a couple of weeks since i bought the motherboard and been wondering whether someone else can help me. Support just wants me to return the motherboard but it doesn't feel like its a hardware issue to me.

Basically whenever something starts or stops playing even short windows sounds or when i start and stop playback on videos i can hear some "pop" sound in my headset. It appears exactly one time when some sound stars playing and one time when it ends. It doesn't appear during playback, so for example if you launch a game it will occur ones and won't appear any more until you stop playing. So when it comes to longer movies or games its perfectly fine but when you want to skip some videos or hear windows sounds - its kinda annoying. This issue only appears with Realtek drivers and installing default windows driver fixes it but then Sonic Suite 2 software stops working.

So i've been wondering whether anyone else gets those small popping sounds when using headset and motherboards back green connector slot and Realtek drivers? Maybe im just fixed on this issue and this is how it supposed to work? Or maybe it doesn't occur for everyone?

Happens to me as well. It doesn't seem to happen right away after a reboot -- usually after some number of hours, I start noticing it. I did trace it down a little further, and it appears to be caused by a driver hogging resources (high DPS). I haven't found a reliable way to cause it to happen.

Which driver are you talking about? The issue im describing above happens right away. Its unrelated to resource usage.

There is another issue with sound stutter that does happen after a couple of hours and i've traced it to a LCDHost software (i think) or maybe some other third party software.

Sorry, I had not yet isolated the driver or issue. It was listing the dxkrnl.sys as high latency in the latency tool. But I certainly note that the sound isn't crackled, it's a distortion at the beginning and end of a sound buffer. Could be that there are two problems happening; as well, I don't see any issue after a system restart -- it only comes on later.
