    G751JLD does not have Backtracker

    Greetings,

I have searched and read nearly every thread on this subject. If I have overlooked one with the solution, I apologize.

Before purchasing three weeks ago, I played with one at Best Buy (I am replacing my Sony VAIO with an i7) and had a question concerning recovery disks because I could not find any resident program to create. The BB representative assured me the Techs could make one for me for a fee. Never had to do that before. I then called ASUS Tech Support explaining my plans to purchase. He assured me it was easy.

Once I got my laptop, simply push the Windows Button plus S (essentially a shortcut for Search) and search for Backtracker. No joy. I searched every possible way for this program. It is not on my laptop. I then started looking for it as a download. It is not available for my model.

Does the G751JLD require a different method for creating recovery disks? If not, does it matter which model of laptop I choose to download the file? I have noticed that different models have different size Backtracker files.

Any help or links to the correct file for download is appreciated.

    Thank you,

    EG

I saw this page previously. However, when on the page below, specific to my model, there is not a Backtracker listed in Utilities, or any other location. With other models, Backtracker is listed in Utilities. From the models I checked the other day, some had different files sizes.

Does any Backtracker file work with every model of ASUS ROG laptop running 8.1, 64 bit?

I hope my persistence to verify is not misconstrued as obstinate. I just want to get this right.

Being honest, recovery disks are a bit redundant these days as it's so easy to obtain and install Windows and all of the necessary drivers. I actually had a bad experience using Backtracker too as it completely wiped my system and failed to restore it, meaning I had to reinstall everything from scratch which turned out to be ridiculously simple.

If you really want a reliable and easy way to back your system up and restore it, I'd recommended the following: When everything is freshly installed and working properly, take a full backup of your system to an external hard drive using Windows own built-in backup tool or use Macrium Reflect. That way, you can free up more space on your system by deleting the recovery partition and even do cumulative backups.

Either way, there's little to worry about.

    Toronto,

Sorry for the delay in replying; had a health issue and had no access to laptop/internet. Regardless, I do appreciate you taking the time to reply. I called tech support guys before I could get your reply (hospitals do allow you to use a landline phone, HA), and was told there are specific versions of Backtracker for different models (in addition to the version of Windows and 32/64 bit). For some reason, my specific model was not included in the support page for my model. I was told to use a G750JY. The version of Backtracker for this model is also the version you linked to.

For anyone else reading this and cannot find Backtracker and have a G751JL, use the link in Toronto's post. It works for our model.

    Thanks again.

    EG
