Good day all..
So a while back my MOBO started getting overheating issues with the MOSFET and I had to replace it. I got an Asus Crosshair V Formula-Z as a replacement motherboard not too long ago and installed it in my computer. At the same time I figured I would get a new chassis because I was tired of not having much room inside so I got a Thermaltake Core V71 (which is absolutely awesome if you didn't know) along with a new PSU because I wanted to do some upgrades in the future, so I got an Antec EDGE 650 W. Ever since I put everything together I have been having freezing issues where the screen, sound, mouse and keyboard lock up.
At first I thought it was just my GPU being really bad (don't know what the GPU was) because it was getting to some ridiculous temps (70-80 C) while playing games on the lowest settings. I've always wanted to upgrade my GPU so I just bought a Gigabyte GTX 970 G1 with 2 Cougar CF-V12HPB fans to both upgrade my old GPU and airflow through the case. With the 3 pre-installed fans on the GTX 970 and the new 120's I was sure that there were going to be zero overheating issues.
So I install my new components and load up some games to test out this new GPU, all of a sudden 30 minutes in (if even) my computer freezes again! I am extremely upset to see this because of buying these new components. I started up my computer again and decided to check out what was going on, put Open Hardware Monitor on one monitor and played some Fallout New Vegas on the left. Again, it freezes, here is a picture I took of all the temps and loads while the computer was frozen with the top two temps being the motherboard:
http://i.imgur.com/3AVTLxb.jpgAt this point I new it wasn't overheating, therefore it must be a hardware issue somewhere. I tried reseating my RAM and updating drivers, the only driver was one for my brand new video card. Restarted my computer to apply the changes, but nope. Still freezing.
At this point I decided it was time to do some research. I found a couple similar people having the same problem but never any solved issues. I ran MemTest a couple times to check the RAM and nothing showed. I also tried to test each stick individually, but nothing changed so I don't think it is the RAM.
It's very odd because it seems like it happens more often when I'm playing a game (under load) then anything, with my old GPU it would even happen when I was just surfing the web... The only thing I can think of is PSU or HDD, I used a couple of PSU calculators and it said 650 W would be enough but could it happen to be too small of a PSU? Also, I got the PSU before the MOBO and wasn't paying attention to notice that it doesn't come with a second 4-pin 12V cord, would that cause freezing? Everywhere I've looked has said the second 12V port on the Crosshair V Formula-Z is used if you are running a lot of RAM. But could they have been wrong and that helps the CPU as well? Not sure how I could tell if it would be the HDD but I thought that might have been another option..?
If anyone knows could help me in this situation it would be greatly appreciated
TL;DR: New PSU, GPU, and MOBO. Thinking PSU might be either underpowered or just the fact it doesnt have a second 4-pin 12V cord for the MOBO, or HDD issue.. computer keeps freezing, freezes faster under load.
