Most laptops will just use profiles stored in the ram (X.M.P. or regular ones for Intel). So make sure you buy ram with a good profile for your computer. I made sure the ram in my signature had a good 1600MHz profile before I bought them. Then of course my laptop used the 2133MHz profile without blinking, ending up with a solid memory overclock but that's a whole different story.
Asus ROG G55VW:
CPU: i7 3630QM
GFX: Geforce GTX660M with 2GB ram
RAM: 2x8Gb 2133MHz Kingston HyperX Impact (surprisingly the G55VW uses the 2133 X.M.P. profile)
Storage: RAID0 with 2x 256Gb Crucial SSDs (both msata, one in a sata adapter)
OS: Windows 10 x64
