The GX700 is pretty cool, there is no doubt that the concept is sound, and it's up to the balance of the implementation as to whether it is a successful product item

This is odd enough for many people seeing it for the first time to be put off, but if you think about it logically, it's an extension of cooling improvement meeting mobility.

Unless there is a self-contained solution available someday that can be portable enough - not balloon out the size - this concept of a cooling dock is solid path to the future for highest performance + slim design.

The issue at first is acceptance and price.

All the 980 laptop implementations are fat - large frames and thick. The GX700 svelte profile makes it easier to tote around for mobile use, while still having good performance.

The GT72S is $3100, the PM870 variant is actually a large SLI box that has been altered to fit a single 200w GPU - there isn't enough room for the fan's / 2nd MXM card with a 200w MXM card.

So far the GT72S 980 looks the most capable / stable out of the gate.

The PM870 current BIOS/vbios aren't handing power regulation well with either the single 980 200w or the 2 x 980m SLI.

My GT80 SLI-263, with a single 330w power supply, is showing better Futuremark Firestrike / 3dmark scores for both GPU and Physics - and Combined/Total, even though the 91w 6700K should be beating the 47w 5950HQ mobile CPU performance wise.

There just isn't enough power with 1 330w power adapter to OC the 6700K and 980 or 980m SLI - even with 2 330w adapters it's still not able to draw enough power to OC well enough to beat my GT80...

I know prema and others working with him will improve the overall performance, but for now it's not there yet.

When Clevo can work out the power supply bottleneck the PM870/PM775 could really kick ass - but I need to see it happen before I purchase

So far the MSI GT80S 980m SLI / 980 SLI, Asus GX700 980, MSI GT72S 980 are my favorite contenders for performance and function at the top end.
