Maximus VIII HERO ....M.2 or RAID...not both

I wanted to simply run my new samsung pro M.2 for system and programs....then run 2 WD black drives in Raid 1 for storage. After working and going through just about every combination in the BIOS...and talking to Customer service(phillipines 4out of 5 times). I was finally told BIOS Raid wasnt going to happen with M.2 and to set up raid through windows 10. I did...but I just dont understand why I couldnt achieve Raid in the bios and M.2. What was happening is that IF you set RAID...then M.2 disappeared....If you set AHCI then M.2 reappeared.

For those wondering...Sata 1 and 2 ports are used by M.2 and I never had anything in those slots.....I tried 3-4-5-6....I also tried the two ASMEDIA controled RAID slots...nothing worked. Im very disappointed with the outcome and the complete lack of any technical knowledge from customer service.(and a specialist was supposed to call me but never did)

Anyone have a similar issue? ...Could this be a bad board or just poor bios support for this configuration?

The Maximus VIII Hero supports both SATA and PCIe M.2 SSD. SATA ports 1 and 2 are disabled when you're using a SATA M.2 SSD. As for the ASMedia SATA ports, they don't support RAID arrays.

I am installing a Samsung Pro 950 which is PCIe. Is there a bios setting were you set the M.2 to PCIe or does it just "know" whether the installed drive is SATA or PCIe flavor?

Just tested my Plextor M6e on the Maximus VIII Extreme. There was no need to configure anything. Practically plug-n-play.

BJB please post in another thread..hijacking mine is not good manners....

This is what I also thought...but I was unable to achieve this and customer support told me this was not going to happen. So they either advertised it incorrectly or I have a bad board. But customer service told me it was not going to happen.

I also tried this on the original BIOS....and then upgraded to the newest BIOS and tried it...

While I appreciate any replies on here....quoting the webpage or box is not going to be any assistance to me.

Maximus Hero VIII board(updated bios from 0802->1001)
M.2 is samsung pro 950
HDD are WD black 2Gb x2

I need specific help....as to whether its a faulty board or just the way it is....Because customer service specifically told me that I was NOT going to get RAID in the Bios with an M.2 installed.

This bothers me because there are 4 other sata ports available and 2 asmedia sata ports....but none of them let me RAID...

BECAUSE...once you select RAID over AHCI...the M.2 disappears.

CHINO...if you have insight please let me know...BUT do not read off the manual/box/website....I already know what they say.

Hi,

I too have this issue!!

M2 Samsung 950 PRO 512mb, Samsung 850 PRO 2T, WAS going to do 2xWD RE 4TB each as mirror Intel IRST RAID for backup space of the others.

Tried all combinations, if M2 available no RAID !!!

ASUS never states in their ads, on the box, or even in the manual that M2 kills Intel IRST RAID !!!

This is crazy, will call ASUS Monday, if no luck back goes the board as defective, glad I used Newegg Prime...
