    Hey,

Vlada, thank you for all your previous information, i was not aware of that. Now it'll make me think twice about buying corsair products. About the "quad channel", the kit he linked is for z170 hence probably dual channel. Since our platform is quad, could it be that using a kit that has 4 sticks in dual
would make it a quad ?

Where on Z170 Quad Channel, no way?
You can use anything on X99 4 or 8 kits and that will be Quad. If you use two that will be Dual.
Only memory designed for Z170 are usually faster, maybe little voltage difference, latency, because IMC allow higher frequency but most of them could be used on X99 platform in dual or quad channel depend how many kits you use.
On Z170 and 4 modules work on Dual Channel. X58 was triple channel with 3 or 6 DIMMs.
You can install your kit in Z170 boards and that will be Dual Channel.

    Hey,

Yes i know z170 is not quad. My question was (and remains) if you get a 4 module z170 memory kit (which is dual channel) will it be seen and used as a quad on x99 ?

    Off course.
Only stay question of module compatibility.
Some will work, some not. Depend of motherboard model and most of BIOS.
I suggest you wo wait 32 GB 4x8GB with at least C11 default latency double sided and than to take good who produce modul. If situation is not clear immediately avoid that brand. If brand use two companies, avoid that brand.
But I think that companies will continue to produce memory with higher frequency with bizzare latency as 18-19 and sl. Example 4000MHz 18-19-18 xexe... People will pay 1000$ for that and they will work as 3200 C13/14.
Only is problem because our IMC will not support them and we will need to upgrade CPU. Because if they launch some good modules with 3000MHz C11, that will work on our board on 2800/3000MHz C9/10.

Anyway you have time in front you. X99 will stay here long time. I thought to upgrade on Skylake-E and yesterday I read Intel will launch Broadwell-E first... Probably i7-6800K 6 cores 28lanes, i7-6850K,6 cores 40 lanes, 6900K 8 cores 40 lanes, and his majesty Intel Xtreme 10 cores 40 lanes i7-6950X. I would kill for one but that's not my class.
    On Rampage 6 Extreme and 32GB 3000MHz C11/12.
That's little advantage of X99, because you can install Broadwell 8 core and 10 cores in X99.But that's only CPU, 10% improvements, if you want new features new chipset is necessary. Or you can wait long time and save money for real improvements and new socket and Intel Skylake E. Gen 3 chipset, PCI-E 4.0 probably.
Other who choose Z platform you see after 3-4 months Intel talk about some new i7-6700K with new function.
    On spring/summer new chipset.

Many things depend and from series, not only brand, this is SK Hynix example 3000MHz on i7-5930K, 4.5GHz and
3.0GHz Cache... Tweaktown test... as you see results are lower than yours...

    http://www.tweaktown.com/reviews/718...iew/index.html

even they work on 1.35V default and I chase for 1.2V kits because if one day decide to OC I have little space for lower latency and few MHz more.

    Hey,

Thanks vlad! You've helped me a great deal! I will indeed wait a little bit more. I'll give it a year or so. After that, it will be stronger than me, i'll have to change the ram .

    Thanks again
