    Unfortunately I haven't seen anyone on these forums who have had success with 16GB of any RAM other than 1333MHz. Above this would be considered overclocking for the core i7 2630 and 2670QM chips, and ASUS seems determined not to let us users do that; hence the ultra-conservative BIOS in the G74. Oddly though they allow it in the G73:

    It will be interesting if, when the 8GB sticks start to become more popular, corsair or kingston release 1x8GB 1600 MHz sticks: perhaps then with two of those in the G74 the BIOS will finally allow 16GB to work at overclocked speeds. The G74 certainly had no trouble recognizing 2x8GB sticks = 16 GB in my system when I was testing to see if it could go to 32GB. But for now if you want the 1600 MHz speeds you will have to use 8GB.
    Read http://www.anandtech.com/show/4503/s...he-best-ddr3/8. The "sweet spot" of 1600MHz is not so sweet for laptops yet, since the increase in cost from going above 1333 MHz is still massive. Save your $$ for an SSD, IMHO.

    Excellent. Good to hear, especially that it is no fluke that 32GB works in the G74SX. For curiosity's sake, what is your Memory bandwidth (in MB/s) reported by memtest86+? I just want to know if mine is comparable too. Thanks!

    Reports 13,955 MB/s ~14GB/s. 200 GBP + 6 GBP spent on them.

    I've attached a screenshot of memtest86+ in action...bandwidth and everything else the same as yours. It would be good to know either of us aren't necessarily losing bandwidth (as far as I know we're the only two on this forum to go to 32GB), so later today I'm going to try putting 2x4=8 GB back in and see what the MB/s is for a moderate amount of RAM in dual channel mode.

    Installed 32 gb ram but I get the occasion blue screen of death now. I think there is something unstable when running 32gb.

    ASUS G74SX memory spec as DDR3 1333 MHz SDRAM, 4 x SO-DIMM socket for expansion up to 16 G SDRAM (Quad Core), 2 x SO-DIMM socket for expansion up to 8 G SDRAM (Dual Core) , so i think maybe over spec will cause system unstable.

    Forget ASUS spec...there have been many people on these forums that have successfully run 4x8GB=32GB in their G74's and G75's problem-free now for months/years (I'm going on 1.5 years now with 32GBs...never a problem, in fact I forget its there). Your problem could be one or more faulty memory sticks causing the BSODs. I suggest you download and burn a CD with memtest86+ (here is a bootable image to burn: http://www.memtest.org/download/4.20...+-4.20.iso.zip) and carefully test your sticks, first all 4 installed, then pair by pair, and then singly until you find the one stick that causes memtest to report errors. Then you've got a case for an RMA from your RAM manufacturer: most good manufacturers (I'm thinking of Corsair here...) will replace your entire kit even if only one stick is bad.

    Don't forget to let memtest86+ test each pair or single stick for a total of three (3) passes minimum...errors may not show up the 1st pass.
