Started selling some old stuff on Craigslist. Can't wait for the guide to start building some! (Unfortunately there's no way I'll have anymore than half the parts by the end of January.)

Ok guys, need some help again.

I went and looked back at some Video Cards on Newegg, and I think I definitely have the wrong one selected.

What I'm looking for is an Nvidia, probably 400 series. $150-$250, that won't crap out on me, and didn't get messed up if it was Factory overclocked.

As of now I'm looking at this Asus one:

    This MSI:

    and this EVGA:

If I am COMPLETELY Overlooking a good card, let me know so I can check it out!

I'm not sure what you mean by the wrong one selected. Are you talking about the MSI that is in your wishlist right now? Other than a poor cooler design I don't think it is going to "crap out" on you. I personally prefer a cooler that exhausts out the back of the case rather than heating the air inside.

I had a different one selected Then reselected that MSI, now might select the Asus because the clocks are a couple higher xD. I can't pick . lol.

Oh, hey, I see what you mean about the fans now. The MSI just kinda blows air everywhere, and the Asus has that case around it so it fans to the back. That;'s awesome, definitely going with that one.

Can you put an ATI card on an Asus board and Intel processor? I didn't think you could, but I'm being told you can by a couple people I know.

The card does not care what kind of board and CPU. What you may be thinking of is that not all boards support Crossfire which is ATI/AMD's multi-card solution.

Well ok then, my question is why would someone choose ATI over Nvidia, or vice versa?

    EDIT:
Stupid question. Multicarding is the answer I assume.

Both AMD(ATI) and Nvidia have multi-card solutions, although Nvidia SLI generally scales to multiple cards more efficiently. The choice generally boils down to bang for the buck, exclusive features (AMD eyefinity, Nvidia PhysX or 3D), and brand loyalty. It's worth noting that Nvidia also has a multi-display option but since Nvidia cards only have 2 outputs you will need multiple cards to do a 3 screen panoramic setup.

In addition to the big 3 points above I would add that some people also consider things like power consumption, heat output, noise, and folding@home performance. Before my last card purchase I saw a demo rig running a couple of GTX480's. It had quite the opposite effect that Nvidia wanted since as soon as I walked within a few feet and heard the awful racket that the coolers were making I knew that I didn't want one. I also considered folding performance since that is something that I do. AMD just can't keep up in GPU folding so I ended up settling on a GTX470 with a non-reference cooler. I got near top of the line performance without the annoyance.
