    Hero multiple starts/stops during post

I try to do research before asking questions, and I have seen this issue mentioned before but not sure if it impacts everyone, only certain equipment, or only certain bios versions.

My first cold boot on a new build fans spin, MB lights up, yeah! Then, no video, and everything spins down....boooo...
Then it does it again, and I note the codes, 99 (super IO initialization) and A3 (IDE enable?). Not exactly error codes although not sure why IDE is active. I am all SATA and M.2.

Anyway, third time, I get video and bios setup comes up fine.

I am going to flash to latest bios but just checking if there is anything that fixes this behavior or if that is just the way it is.

    Thanks,
    BJBBJB

    Hello BJBBJB

I know previous boards would double boot if you turned the psu switch off or unplugged it, a bios update as you suggest solved that or just let it plugged in and the psu switch on when you shut it down. One would think that would be addressed in the VIII series boards.

Do you get an overclocking failed message when the bios setup comes up?

    Chino,
The bios upgrade seems to have helped, thanks. I installed in UEFI mode (hit F8 and double clicked on my DVD drive UEFI setting) from a DVD drive. Reatail windows DVD.

How do I verify that I am in UEFI mode? My boot options show windows boot manager, my 950, and the DVD drive. I guess I expected it to say UEFI in the boot list?

My other problem is strange but unrelated. An ethernet cable and network that worked fine with my other PC is not being recognized by the motherboard. I did verify that the adapter was active in the onboard device section of the bios. Any ideas there?

Never seen that....the network would not even work without the ethernet driver.
Going to install rest later this afternoon. I believe the advice is that the chipset "driver" (update utility) is not needed since the MB is so new and I am running it on Win 10:? Just the intel management utility?

Reason I ask is that I have exclamation marks on the PCI memory controller, PCi simple communications controller, and SM bus controller.

    Thanks again.

To verify that it's an UEFI install, run MSINFO32 and look under BIOS Mode.

Yes, you need to install the ethernet driver to have the LAN adapter working. Download the latest version off the motherboard support page. If it's your only system, use the one on the DVD.

Really don't need the Intel .inf, only the Intel chipset and ME drivers are the most crucial.

You can also look under disk management to verify a UEFI installation.
It will show 3 partitions: (Recovery), (EFI System), and (Primary).

Thanks to all. Both methods showed EUFI. As for as the boot selection in the bios, should I be choosing "windows boot manager" or Samsung 950?
I do not have a dual OS boot and this was not an upgrade. It was a clean install.
    Thanks again,
