I was thinking about buying the Z to get rid of the popping noise from the onboard sound.

I purchased my Sound Blaster Z OEM version a couple of years ago (MODEL:SB1500) it does not have the Nichicon gold capacitors and it does not have the EMI shield but it works well in the PCIEX1_3 slot on the M8H (BIOS 1402) and latest M8H mainboard chipset drivers, the Sound Blaster Z driver package is (SBZ_CD_L13_1_01_03) i'm also using Windows 10 Home x64 version 1511 OS Build 10586.63

I have the same problem with my VIII Hero and the Sound Blaster Z. Windows shuts down, the screen goes black, but the clicking relais sound does not come and the pc stays powered on (lights up, fans running). In my case this problem only appears after heavy load / gaming sessions longer than 1h, when the pc runned for a shorter time shutdown works normally (the clicking releais sound comes and everything shuts down)

The problem completely disappears when I remove the sound blaster and switch to onboard sound.

Did you already try out BIOS 1402? I tested with 1202 and 1302.

    +1

I have the same issue. After removing SB Z, system goes back to normal and restarts/shuts down normally.

Another thing is that Windows 10 for some reason recognizes our card as SB Recon3d and that driver caused a lot of issues for me.
