    Well that bites Rick.

You already ran the CHKDSK and it came up fine, I wonder if updating the firmware on the SSD might help?

No idea, guess I could try that once I figure out how to! Probably be best to clone it to another SSD just tin case that goes bad, what do you think?

Just looking at BB and they have these two avail today. Your opinion?

I'd probably choose the sandisk ultra II out of those two. The Samsung 850 pro is a good choice from amazon but probably wouldn't arrive in time for Christmas.

Here's a tutorial how to update the firmware, If you go with the Samsung 850 pro you can update the firmware with a click of a button in the magician software.

Okay, new Sandisk Ultra II 480,and Macrium-Retreat Free cloning software. Couldn't have been easier. Updated firmware on both SSD's and the new drive worked flawlessly this AM while the old one is still not recognized by the BIOS until the system is running continually for several minutes.

Will likely reformat the bad drive and see if it will work as a data drive. If not then the garbage can will be it's new home.

    Thanks for the help
    Rick S.

    LOL

I hear ya man I wish you luck in salvaging it, I'm curious what's wrong with it so if you get it back to normal let me know how you fixed it.

I would have thought chdsk would have found some sort of errors on a faulty drive?

    Follow-up.

Reformatted the drive and the BIOS does not recognize it until the system has been on for several minutes. New drive continues to work as expected.

Guess it's time to chunk the old drive.
