Why you upgrade firmware on ASMedia USB 3.0 Controller?
    You had some problem?

And how you know firmware version on your controller before upgrade?
I ask only, I don't need that. How you check firmware version? I mean is it possible at all.

When you do the update it will state your version you have then it will update it i highly recommend updating it as the version shipped with the board is old, i haven't had any problem so far running the new firmware but i haven't had time to test every USB drive i have.

I had problems with a Sandisk pen not being recognized when plugged. After update, it always shows.

As liveordie told you, the update exe states your version and gives you the chance to upgrade in case it is older.

OK thanks... I want to tell something because many people complains on R5E, as someone say He don't know single person who didn't had problem...
If you ask me ASUS too gently show up with X99 Series compare to Z170. And X99 is more important platform, this time more than ever people upgrade on Extreme platform and they should feel that when Intel show up with affordable i7-5820K or to react fast as MSI.
Most famous series of motherboards Rampage with symbolic number 5, first DDR4 platform, affordable i7-5820K with all these factors R5E should be ssymbol of stability and ASUS knowledge for 4-5 years period. X99 stay top chipset between 3.5 and 4 years.
ASUS behave like they made mistake with X99 and now would like to people upgrade on Z170...
I don't know for you but I didn't think on seconds on Skylake, I will think on him 2017 when he get few more cores.
Now is period of X99 and they launch maybe one of worse platform ever.
I mean Z87 and Z97 had better choices and ASUS invest more work than in X99.
From other side MSI build completely nice series, and very fast all boards get option with Internal USB 3.1.
I mean USB 3.1 is no reason to someone build board because of that, all of us know when Intel show up with own controller
situation become interesting, and I think even with Skylake EP they will go with USB 3.0 and USB 2.0. Who knows maybe they show up with USB 4.0 immediately and companies start to produce faster devices... But ASUS should organize better motherboards, with black series, one Gene board with all new features, one ATX ROG with all features affordable without OC Panel. OC Panel cost 100$, when ASUS give you that mean 50-60$ more expensive board. It's different when board cost 390 and 450.
They could sell R5E for 390e. I had one offer from Hungary, but that was not official price worldwide.
Distributors mostly go with 450+. At the end everything on side they should show up with so stable motherboard that generations talk about R5E.
X99 deserve that, our processors is not 4770K, he OC better, it's not so hot, have more cores, everything is on place only miss excellent motherboards.

    Hi,

I am from Singapore and had mine since December 2015. I have a mild 4.4ghz overclock with a 5960x on a Corsair 110, 32GB Gskill 2400 RAM, MSI 980, Intel 180GB SDD & 750GB PCIe, 2x HDD, Corsair 1200W power supply. I am running the last version of the bios before this recent release. It hasn't had any issues from the time I bought it.

For what its worth, I've asked some system integrators and they mentioned that a bad power (PSU) could be responsible for some of the system instability.

If your help was actually useful i would and seeing your the one that was being a smart ass in the first place your the one out of place kiddo.

It seems you have these mixed up.

Software does include both firmware and drivers, but telling some one to play with asmedia drivers doesn't include firmware as both a very different things, Firmware is software which is programmed onto the device, when a driver is the software that tells your operating system how to communicate with the device, so for your help to actually be useful you should of said software not drivers.

Any software that defines/controls hardware's behaviour is a hardware specific driver written for this particular device and installed on this device. On other hand you may have OS driver which is OS specific and can be more abstract and handle different types of devices.

A driver is software and/or firmware that controls hardware. I don't see any inconsistency in what I wrote but lack in your knowledge. If you have problems calling it you can always call it an app.
