Crosshair IV formula motherboard help need :(

Hi everyone !

Some time ago, I bought a Crosshair IV Formula with a AMD 6 cores (3.8ghz).
No O.C., usual daytoday work. It was awesome ! a big difference with my old
intel core duo 2.6ghz on a p5ld2 motherboard ...

Then the cpu fan start to do some weird annoying noises for some time.
And one day, the computer suddenly stop during a win10 session.
No shutdown, no warning. power off bam.

Upon investigation, there is a cpu led solide red on the board
and the cpu fan dont work any more. It's not booting at all.
The psu works.

I've unplugged all storage but no boot.

Question : is it possible that because the cpu fan is dead that
the board wont boot ?

I tried to find a replacement fan but a 4pins fan is tough to find in my
area. I hope the cpu or motherboard are not fried or something 😞
Please tell me it's a bios thing like "no cpu fan, no boot"...

Thanks a regards

Hello steph291

A sudden shut down could be the psu, what code is the motherboard LED stopping on?

Please list us your complete system specifications.

Stephane,
Welcome to ROG.

The first thing I would do is try another PSU.
If I understand your post, When you power on the 'board' the red led is on for the cpu ?
That could be bad news if you try a different PSU with the same result.
(actually if I remember back to the IV, if there is no cpu fan you will see the error in boot with
the warning, shutting down) ... but I don't think your 'board' is powering up as @Nate152 suggests.

Nate, No code led on the CH IV .. sigh. That didn't come along until CH V F-Z, not even the V had it.

Best of Luck Stephanie, Please keep us posted. .c.

Follow up!

I bought a new cpu. Tried it. no Show.
and still that red cpu light.
Maybe the psu is faulty...
