GL752VW Blu-Ray Upgrade question
On the ASUS web page they list a Blu-Ray option for the GL752VW but it doesn't come in the build on the store.
Does anyone know the part info on how to get one to swap for the multi drive that it ships with? I called the ASUS eStore and they didn't have any info for some reason.
Anyone out there who has done this via third party dvd as well?
Thanks for any info people have on this.

Here are a number of 9.5MM Blu-Ray drives available for under $70 via Newegg: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...=-1&isNodeId=1
I can't comment on how easy it is to swap out the drive as I have never done so on a laptop. Alternatively, XOTIC PC which is a authorized Asus vendor, carries both the GL752VW-DH71 (model with 2GB 960M) and GL752VW-DH74 (model with 4GB 960M) with an option to upgrade to a Blu-ray drive for $99. Here's the links:

I would try a g751 drive. Most of the blu rays i have taken out have been panasonics and they can be found new on ebay for $75
Theres also some references here
https://rog.asus.com/forum/showthrea...T-CH71-laptops
A listing here
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Blu-Ray-BD-B...QAAOSwuTxV8PoF
Also the drive Richcraft listed on newegg is 12mm and since the g751 used a 9.5mm drive i highly doubt the g752 went thicker.Last edited by aeolisio; 01-05-2016 at 11:30 AM.

Panasonic UJ262 UJ-262 is what you want. These are extremely easy to change out. The hardest thing is changing the outer trim as every laptop manufacturer has a different trim, the ASUS is curved. Not very difficult but you do have to have a little patience and dont try to force it or you will break the tabs. I installed one on mine with little effort.

The other thing is there are no native media players/burners for Blu-ray format. Sony has that locked down tighter than a goats backside. The only software I could locate that was simple and works without trying to kill yourself with codecs is Cyberlink Power DVD. They are having a sale now so you can actually get a decent deal. Its normally like $100 just fort the player software.

A bit narcissistic. There is no place in my post that references the G751 nor does the link provided to source the drive. I did make an assumption that they are using the same size drives as every other ASUS laptop on the market being the 9.5mm slim version.
The drive I listed is not a drive that was cannibalized, its a generic Panasonic which is why I noted that you have to change the trim on the tray and reuse what you have. Otherwise you would have to wait for the Ebay cannibals to start posting up from their chop shops and I guarantee you that the trim on a cannibalized G751 drive would also have to be change as the curvature on the trim and the color/material is different. I have used this very same drive to update 2 G series machines of different flavors with having to do nothing more than.......you guessed it.......changing the trim on the tray that is snap in.Last edited by JustinThyme; 01-05-2016 at 01:16 PM.

So the answer is No you have not removed one from a g752. Thanks.
When you say "Panasonic UJ262 UJ-262 is what you want." you might want to bother to tell the person that your just guessing it will work with his g752 as i did when i said "I would try a g751 drive. Most of the blu rays i have taken out have been panasonics and they can be found new on ebay for $75" I just wanted to clarify for the original poster that you don't know for sure when you said thats the drive he wants. I am just trying to inform people properly before 500 people go out and buy something based on your guess. If someone asked me which ram stick they needed and i didnt know i certainly wouldnt word it as "you want this" stick i would tell them what i would try based on past knowledge.3d printed parts and accessories for the G751. Thanks the the correction Aeolisio, I went ahead and updated my link to reflect the 9.5mm drives. However, just a point of clarification, CEOwulf is inquiring about the G -L- 752, not the G752. The body of the laptop between these two models is quite different, so I'm hoping 9.5mm is accurate for the GL752.

Yes it may be a guess but it's n educated guess almighty ROG God with a better source than EBay where the user can return it very easily if it doesn't work. There are but two tray drives on the market, 9.5 mm and 12mm.
So it's OK for 500 people to buy the wrong thing that you quoted twice 500 times but don't dare think of another alternative?
I guess narcissistic arrogance must be trending on the west coast.
OP if you want a guaranteed result my suggestion. Would be to pull your current optical drive and either measure the thickness or research the model to get it. I'm more then sure you will find its 9.5mm as with every other ASUS laptop on the market. There is but a single screw that holds it in.Last edited by JustinThyme; 01-05-2016 at 04:29 PM.
