I guess narcissistic arrogance must be trending on the west coast.

OP if you want a guaranteed result my suggestion. Would be to pull your current optical drive and either measure the thickness or research the model to get it. I'm more then sure you will find its 9.5mm as with every other ASUS laptop on the market. There is but a single screw that holds it in.

Perhaps you should follow your own advice. You insulted me here and continuously insult the noobs.

    Back on topic.
OP any 9.5mm drive will do. You just have to be prepared to change out the trim on the tray. There is but a single screw that holds it in. How far you ha e to go to get to that screw is dependent on the model. On the G751 and G752 once you remove the upgrade access cover its easy to get too. You will then see that screw goes through an L bracket that you will also have to reuse from the old drive. Here are a few shots I just took of a G751 so you can see it on that particular machine.

Pretty sure they all use the same size drives. These drives aren't proprietary. The G752 (which I realize is not a GL752) uses the same size drive as the G751 it looks like, just a newer drive. Both the drives are 9.5mm. I would be willing to bet that you would be safe with most 9.5mm sata drives as long as you follow JustinThyme's advise on the face plate.

An easy way to tell what drive you have would be to check HWiNFO and lookup the model # of the drive in your GL752. Im sure you can find specs on it which will tell you the size.

Great advice. Mr Ruckus. My G72 just hit the door a couple of hours ago. It has the same drive that in the end, is still a Panasonic on the inside.
The drives are all pretty much the same, what changes is the L mounting bracket and the tray trim.

Thanks for the information since I was wondering the same thing since I got mine. It should make for an easy transition from dvd to blu-ray.

I have now successfully updated my ROG with BD unit. I found all advises along this thread - especially the several pictures above - of unvaluable help. Thank you to all posters for that.

I own a G752VY-T7004T european version with super multi dl as an optical unit. Just for the record the old unit was a Toshiba Samsung SU-228GB which is good one but not BD. I have purchased the newest Panasonic UJ-272 which is the successor of UJ-262; a little bit expensive but it supports for 100GB/128GB.

    You may find specs here:

    http://www.amazon.com/Panasonic-UJ-2.../dp/B00WHVS8PE

The installation has been really a piece of cake, just remove the bottom cover and then just one screw (that labelled as ODD or something like that). I then followed the advises and pictures from Justin at #12. A little care to removing the trim on the tray was a must but not the end of the world.

When everything were installed and ROG rebooted then new hardware was silenty found; I have ran HWiNFO64 and, bing, it was just there!

    As I don't have a 100GB to hand I have tested a 50GB which the UJ-272 writes to 6x speed; no bad!

Thanks again to everybody commited here in helping others.

Exactly the same thing (and model: UJ-272) I wanted to do for my G752VY-T7004T... no detailed pics for the front door/bezel replacement procedure?

There was a blurayplayer/DVD writer in my G752VY which I exchanged for the Mat****a (Matsu****a/Panasonic) UJ272 S Bluray writer. I got it through asusparts.eu, a Swedish spare-parts company advised by Asus to me. Swapping the drive was easy.

This one (UJ152) should also work fine and is really cheap (no Blu-Ray Writer, just Reader)!

Not much to it. Once you see it its cut and dry. There are click in tabs on either side. Small screwdriver to press in the tabs and pull out on the trim.
