Issue with G751JY touchpad, can't tap to click on things, left button won't respond

My G751JY's touchpad suddenly started malfunctioning today. I can't tap to click on things, and the left button won't respond. I can still move the cursor around, and the right button works fine. I switched the functions of the left and right button so I can use the pad without having to connect a USB mouse.

I already tried rebooting, upgrading to the latest Elan drivers, using older drivers, changed to generic PS/2 drivers, tried to install Synaptics (and failed), and did a malware scan, still nothing. Also, I can't edit touchpad settings since they don't show up in mouse properties for some reason.

Any ideas on how to fix this?

I have seen this issue on 3 other g751s and unfortunately each one required rma to replace the actual pad. No amount of software or even clean installs affected it. We were able to pull the keyboard assembly of a working unit and it worked fine when installed on one of of those units so for us it was a hardware failure. I cant guarantee your facing the same issue but for us it was exactly as you describe unable to tap or double tap and left button not working. If you have already eliminated software issues and the hotkey you may be in the same boat.
3d printed parts and accessories for the G751. You know you want something better than OEM ->https://www.shapeways.com/shops/aeolisio[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]

Have not verified this on my end, but one customer with similar problems to you reported solving the problem by reseating a 'crimped' cable, so something you may want to check if you have any problems getting warranty service and don't mind risking your warranty to try this.

Below is a post from di Valenti reporting similar problems and the second post below from di Valenti should provide more details about how to solve it although they were replying about a slightly different issue.
