weird overclocking experience But I think I got it stable this time :P *update*

it's been like a month now and now my system 101 bsod again 2 days ago only on idle and even on linux it froze up including the mouse & keyboard as well so I figure it was actually the hardware/motherboard that was unstable this whole time. now I think adaptive mode is not giving enough idle cpu core voltage (0.816V) or my cpu can't handle Ram at 3200MHz or XMP mode caused my system to run unstable 😕

my current hardware specs and settings

CPU:
6700K OC at 4.8GHz 0ffset mode with +0.010 and level 3 on LLC (0.832V-0.864V on idle and 1.376V on load)
Motherboard: ASUS Maximus VIII Hero (Bios: 1302)
PSU: EVGA 850W G2
CPU cooler: Corsair H100i
GPU: EVGA GTX 970 SSC in SLi
OS 1: Windows 7 Pro 64Bit
OS 2: Zorin OS 10 ultimate 64Bit (linux based off of Ubuntu 15.04)
Ram: G.Skill Ripjaws V 16GB (2X8GB) 3200MHz DDR4 1.35V (set on 3000MHZ)
ODD 1: 12X LG BD-rom/dvd rewrite combo (UH12NS30)
ODD 2: 16x LG BD-RE (WH16NS40)
HDD 1: 1TB WD Black (WD1001FALS)
HDD 2: 2TB WD Black (WD2003FZEX)
HDD 3: 2TB WD Green (WD20EARX)
SSD 1: Samsung EVO 840 256GB
Sound Card: Creative Sound Blaster Z

in order to fix the 101 bsod, I had to try out offset mode +0.005 with level 5 on LLC wich gives the max cpu core voltage to 1.408V and set the ram at 3000MHz in manual mode and the bsod went away, I did this yesterday and still hasn't bsod yet and linux has stopped freezing as well too

*off topic kinda*
here is the benchmark scores for my current oc settings

Daily usage is the best test for overclock stability after all.

yup and stress testing wouldn't work because full load isn't the issue 🙂

You're living on the edge with just a 850w PSU....

Twin 970's, a decent CPU overclock and let me guess, GPU's overclocked too?

AirRookie,
Very nice build, for those who have not used a GTX 970, they are quite amazing cards, very efficient and more powerful than you would imagine, and the Hero is a very good board, easy to overclock
About the same voltage my 6700K needs for 4.8GHZ, I sent my CPU to Silicon Lottery and had it dellided just for the lower temps 10 to 15 degrees lower, what are you running your Cache at, default or do you have it overclocked, what case are you using

NemesisChild,
Which memory kit are you using, is Cl14 factory timings or do you have them tweaked

I have my Cache Overclocked at 4.7GHz which is the limit

You have a very good overclock on your setup
