Maximus VIII Formula Shutdown but fans still running

Dear all,

I'm currently experiencing this problem where once clicked shutdown:

  • Windows do it's turn off things.
  • Monitor off
  • Mouse and KB light off
  • But mobo lighting and cpu fans keep running

I will have to press and hold the power button to turn off the system. Once it off, turning it on again will NOT give any Windows error.

Can anyone shed some light on this issue. It's frustrating :(.

Thanks.

its a well known problem also discussed in this topic i opened some weeks ago

https://rog.asus.com/forum/showthread.php?81504-solution-windows-doesnt-shutdown-on-maximus-boards

1. If you have Asus Aisuite 3 deinstall it and use the Asus Cleaner after it

2. also check if the Intel Services i mentioned im my first post exist and if yes deactivate them

notice that there isnt a 100% Solution out yet

I did have the same problem. I did unplugg the 24 and 8 pin power connectors. Removed the motherboard battery for 10-15 sec. Connected the power cables then the battery. And if you just updatet Bios do a restor to optimal defult in bios.

This did help me. Hope it helps You 🙂

Hi,

I am having the same problem with my Asus Formula VIII
Shutdown issue: Windows 10 does trigger the shutdown process, the monitor goes black but fans won't turn off (not normal) and MB LED's stay powered on (that is normal)
No complete system shutdown MB. have to shut the PSU down manualy for complete shutdown.

I know it is not an PSU issue because it worked perfect on my older MB.

Is this a Hardware failure of the Asus MB?
The "funny" thing is, sometimes the pc does shutdown correctly, but it does that very rarely and i do not know the conditions why it does that.
I looked at every setting in the BIOS and could not find anything.
I even did a complete BIOS flash yesterday, but to no avail.

Please advise. I can find a lot of people with this problem. But i still have to find (read) the solution.
According to the ROG forum this is a known issue?? any Solution?

could this be a hardware problem of the MB and if so would a new MB be the solution?

I got this reply from Asus:
You must be kidding: they are already off (default settings are OFF)
anyone want to comment on this?

Dear mr. Piot,

Thank you for your email.

Go into the BIOS by tapping the Delete key right after you power on the system.
Under de Advanced tab go to APM Configuration and turn off ErP Ready and turn off all the Power On options.

If this does not solve the problem I suggest you test this with a different PSU.
Some power supplies have power saving options making it possible that non supported mainboard do not fully shut down.

I hope to have informed you enough.
Ik hoop u hierbij voldoende te hebben geinformeerd.

Kind regards,
Vriendelijke groet,

Asus TSD.

Hi guys,

This could be a sign of an unstable pc, possibly the ram. I have my pc overclocked and sometimes it won't shut down and is caused by my overclocked ram. It has also shut down on me just idling at the desktop.

Once stable neither one happens again.

You can try running at default settings and see if your pc acts normal.

I am running on standard BIOS default settings (No OC / or XMP profile).
PC is stable, but it will not shut down correctly (fans keep spinning).

Windows 10 is a clean install, so it should at least do a proper shutdown.

This is not my first build, but it is the first time that i encountered this problem.
