It is too bad that EKWB is not more clear about the behavior of this pump in their marketing.
The PWM pumps that we sell are true PWM and so are PWM adjustable. If your pump isn't capable of being adjusted then it's probably a faulty pump.

I would suggest that you open a ticket on our website. If the pump is faulty, we will most likely replace it.

It's a standard Laing PWM DDC pump.

Sorry for the long delay in replying... Ultimately I figured out that the wires in the pump connector were reversed. I ordered this pump directly from EKWB and didn't do anything other than install it, so it must have come that way from the factory. Flipping the cables in the connector (that was a pain) fixed the variable speed problem. Now I just need some fan software that is not so buggy in how it behaves

    Water pump connector

Is it safe to connect a EK predator 240 pump on the Maximus VIII extreme water pump header (in PWM mode)?

EK manual says to connect it to the CPU fan header.

I would like to put the fans on the CPU header and the pump on the water pump header in order to have a control on each of them otherwise pump and fans will be controlled only by the CPU fan header.

Yes you should be fine. All the fan headers on your board are PWM so if you encounter an issue with the pump header for whatever reason, you can use another header.
