Video Card acting really strange

Hi everyone,

My video card is really acting strange today. I couldn't seem to get it working at first but after:
Repasting CPU, Repasting GPU & reseating everything, changing gpu cables, still gives me problems on bios level. I even updated the bios to an older revision, now back to the newest.

The current problem that my video card is running at 4x speed (in bios) instead of 16x. It's seated in Slot 1 of my Asus Maximus V Formula (specs are below). In HWiNFO64 it says 'PCIe v3.0 x16 (8.0 Gb/s) @ x4 (8.0 Gb/s)' I brought my video card to a shop 2 weeks ago and they tried it in their test system, it didn't even respond then. I was busy for a few hours on that day as well and eventually replaced the cooling paste and that seemed to fix it. I know the video card is working and just needs some kind of 'kickstart' to lock it into 16x.

It's running 4x in the first slot
8x in the second slot
didn't try the third slot because that's just a waste of time.

I tried removing my bios battery, run display driver uninstaller in safe mode and shutdown 'for installing a new videocard'
I can't think of anything else.

Any solutions would be lovely, I wasted my whole day on this..

Best Regards,

Peter

Hello piotrtekien

Your post had my wheels turning with the gpu at x4 in the bios and x16 in windows.

Good job finding the problem !
