    Aura lighting control crashing/drdump

    M8 Hero Alpha

I cannot seem to get the RGB Aura Lighting control application to run. It immediately crashes on startup and opens the browser to drdump.com for a post-mortem stack dump. I've installed/uninstalled all the available versions on the web site to no avail.

According to the crash-dump, it's crashing down in the code that accesses the AHCI portions of the MB. Are there some AHCI drivers I need to install? I'm running Win 10/Fast-ring preview builds. I also cannot seem to install AISuite 3 as the installers all seem to hang or fail.

Is anyone else experiencing similar issues with the Aura Lighting control app?

    Hi kylix.rd

Welcome to the ROG forum !

All you need to do is install the Aura software from the motherboard DVD or from the utilities on the downloads page.

Have you installed the chipset driver and the MEI driver?

A list of your system specs would be helpful too.

Windows 10, Preview build 14342, 32MB RAM, Samsung 950 512GB M.2 NVMe SSD, 2 Intel RAID 0 arrays (4 drive, 2 per array), EVGA NVidia GTX 970 SSC

I have the latest MEI driver installed, version 11.0.0.1172. It's newer than the one on the MB DVD, version 11.0.0.1163, which fails when I try to install it. The logs indicate that a newer version was located so the install failed.

I have installed the Aura software (tried all available versions), how else would I be able to run it? It runs, but immediately crashes on startup with a Dr. Dump (which is a third-party post-mortem debugging tool integrated into the Aura software).

Another oddity, is that I'm unable to install any of the AISuite tools. The installers either hang, or fail at some point in the install.

    Thank You

If you have the chipset driver installed I suspect one of two things, either your ram is unstable or it's something to do with raid.

First try the vccio and cpu system agent voltages at 1.20v - 1.25v and see if it still hangs, if it does I suspect it's something with raid. I don't use raid so I have no suggestions on that except to disable it.

I've never had any issues with RAID, and disabling them is not really an option since all the user account information and a lot of the program files are junctioned onto them. Everything about the system is stable and running well. It is *just* the Aura lighting application and the AISuite tools.

I don't really care about the AISuite tools if they don't install, but the lighting headers was one reason I picked up the M8 Hero Alpha. The ASUS LED Control Service is running, it is only the control application which crashes on startup.

I'm not sure why you're having trouble, maybe try a bios update.

Already on the current 1601 BIOS, which did fix several RAID issues when I was originally configuring the system.

I don't know if the issue is related to the Windows 10 preview builds or if there is just some driver/configuration conflict. For instance, I was able to install the TurboV app and driver, but when I run it, it fails with the error message 'Invalid class string, ProgID: "atkexCom.axdata"'

Like I said, I'm able to use the system since it is stable, runs well and doesn't exhibit any problems except for the ASUS tools. This is one of many ASUS MBs I've had over the years and this is the first time I've had issues like this. I don't necessarily think the problem is the hardware, but in the software tools/drivers.

After you installed windows 10 tell me everything you installed, it sounds like it could be an issue with the chipset driver or the MEI driver.

Intel chipset drivers installed fine, as did all the normal USB drivers, Ethernet drivers, bluetooth, wifi, etc... Realtex sound drivers are working, along with the Asmedia drivers. I did install the latest Samsung NVMe drivers, but I did that recently; the Lighting control stuff wasn't working before that.

All drivers and devices are showing up in Device Manager as working (no errors).
