I am considering setting uo a clean install of Win 10 OS so thinking of adding a M.2 Storage Drive..

Is it worth it over a SSD?
If so what is the best Drive & use.. to buy and run for OS and possibly Gaming?

Model, Brand, size?

The only ones that have improved performance are the NVMe drives, and right now that's the Samsung 950 Pro 256GB or 512GB (or the Samsung 951 OEM drive). That's it.

There are more that are coming out in the next few months. When those come out, the prices may go down.

Unless you want to pay a premium price for the top drives, the Samsungs aren't really worth it. It would be better to get a larger standard SATA SSD, like a 1TB or 2TB model.

If he has the regular Hero VIII mobo, it doesn't support NVMe ssd's without a adaptor. He can get a Samsung 850 EVO 500GB M.2 ssd, which it does support. http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-850-EVO-3-5-Inch-MZ-N5E500BW/dp/B00TGIW1XG/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1455... http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820147399&cm_re=Samsung_850_EVO_500GB_M.2-_-20...

Uhhh ... what?

The regular M8 Hero does indeed support NVMe M.2 drives. That comes native on all Z170 boards.

And there's no such thing as an adapter for NVMe operation. There are PCIe to M.2 adapter cards but those are for full speed operation on older mainboards that came before Z170. Z170 supports full speed operation of M.2 NVMe drives.

The Samsung 950 Pro is what you're looking for. As for size, get as big as your budget permits. 🙂

If you have the budget the Samsung 950 Pro is the way to go. If you have the budget and time to wait, do so. At present the Samsung 950 Pro maxs out a 512gb and the 1tb version is due out any month now with newer and faster chips.
